Actually I just realized something. Runes made for this buddy don't automatically transfer over, and it may be a little while until creators remake the runes.

it's only available by pressing CTRL+R in Versus Mode, or in online friendlies at the moment. It'll be normalized when or before Definitive Edition releases.

Wait I'm confused. The description says that this buddy is no longer required to play workshop with abyss runes. But how else do you play workshop characters with abyss runes? There's no option for it in "Change Rules" and Abyss Mode is still locked.

I can't add runes to base cast myself (see: description. tl;dr workshop characters work different) but as for Shovel Knight runes.. RoA Definitive Edition will actually come with updates to the base game runes, including the addition of DLC character runes.

what about the 16 base characters, they have no runes but workshop characters do, its not fair for the dlcs, shovel knight needs runes!

I'm not sure about the character, but I know it bugged out on Neo Fire Capital and Treetop Lodge, and I know it works on Merchant Port, Julesvale, Rock Wall, and whatever Sylvanos's stage is.

That's different; that's not changing the base cast character's stats, moves, and special objects functionality in any way. That is just detecting which character it is, which is easy. CHANGING them on the other hand, not so much.

As the first note in the description mentions, the current way the buddy works means that I cannot currently add support to the base cast. Buddies not actually having the ability to draw things being the reason. It may happen in the future, especially if buddies get their own draw scripts.

It was unreleased for a pretty long while. The release date was yesterday. :)
