Possibly in the distant future I might do an armour shop but that would be a long time away :D
I think I will probably go back and make a weathered version of each helm at some point so people have the choice there :)
I agree with you that it's silly that newly crafted armor looks all weathered out like it's been in the desert for decades but I believe it's because the base building and crafting part of the game is pretty much an afterthought. It was never meant to be part of the game for most of the development cycle so that's why everything you buy in the shop looks preowned.
Having said that, I feel like the patina, rust and battle scars add personality to the armors. Makes it look that much interesting. I know you didn't ask for feedback on the design of your helmets but honestly as it is right now it looks too perfect, too pristine for the world of Kenshi. I hope you'll consider making a battle tested version in the future. Good luck with your mods!
The engine is more than capable of handling metallic materials and reflections but the dev chose to give everything this extreme weathered look.
So yeah, I have to match that look with the helms or it would look odd having shiny stuff in comparison.
You'll have to play around with the intensity of your metalness on the Blue channel of your color map and the glossiness in the Alpha channel of your diffuse map to get the look that you're looking for. Then in FCS remember to add the color map to your material, set "dont colorise" for the helmet to "False" and just add any random color for the helmet.
