So true that declaring war without a CB should add aggressive expansion. Does this work with Invictus? Update anytime soon?

The siege of Troy contradicts your thesis

Due to the extensive changes to warfare and military in 2.0 this will probably take a little while to come back, I'm also focusing on updating my other mods at the moment. But I definitely intend to update this in some form in the future.

At last, updated and overhauled for 1.5 Menander. Enjoy!

I might update this with a merged version of this and Imp. Sieges in some time. Internal management may not be updated for a while if at all. We'll see.

@Amyntas Its even worse than the EU4 battle system . They went backwards. reminds me of games I play in 1995
Its one of the biggest issues of the game . And from what it looks like paradox is not addressing it.
I'll need to test this mod. It is aiming to adress essential issues that prevented me from enjoying the game.
[BSB] xilanna  [
Yes the 1k stack spamming is unfortunate, but exist in vanilla also. It is already quite unhistorical that a single battle can last several weeks (even more with this mod) unfortunately. But that is the constraint of the Paradox war game model, and making battles realistically long would completely destroy them within the framework of this game, so it is something we have to live with. I am personally fine with forts and creating strategic locations and chokeholds can be interesting, there is my Improved Sieges mod which makes fort sieges faster and assaulting something you can and should do often. Glad you like and thanks for the feedback!
So yes, I played an entire campaign with this mod. So far, so good! :)
I'm getting more decisive battles with massive numbers partaking in them (ie, lastest had 75,000 up against my 60,000). Casualties and draining the man pool really impact how you want/avoid engagements.

One thing I have noticed is that battles tend to become long engagements with constant 1000 man spawns rushing to join them. Not that this is bad, but kind of ahistorical.

I'm wondering, perhaps all forts should be removed to make the game more about field battles? (except region capitals)
[Army of Two] AXIS 2019
I agree, and also I dont like how late game looks more and more like HoI4 with armies all over the map.. I havent played since Pompey, and I am waiting for the Livy update and content pack to give it a go again (With of course extended time limit mod, because I cant spend a whole playthrough building something and then throw it away)
I applaud the intention. Keep it up. The ahistorical, copy-paste EUIV war system makes me almost weep at times.
[BSB] xilanna  [
If you want to really try the effects of the mod I recommend the first 20 years of a Phrygia campaign with this and the Diadochi wars mod.
[BSB] xilanna  [
@[Army of Two] AXIS I have that sentiment as well. Thank you for your feedback. I've been playing with the mod for around 2 weeks after finishing it to get a feel for it and finetune the numbers before publishing and I feel it's at a good spot at the moment.

Unfortunately I don't think it's possible to get close to a point where battles are as impactful as they were in history with the constraints of the Paradox model. One thing I hope for in the future is to be able to mod shattered retreat to not be able to manually retreat without using the forced retreat button and that it will be slower and take longer before you can use your army again making battles, and especially big battles, much more decisive for the overall war.
[Army of Two] AXIS 2019
Anyone tried this out?

Btw, I do agree with modder that battles should be more decisive, many of the great wars of ancient times were decided after 2-3 big battles and maybe a dozen smaller skirmishes were they tried to measure each other up. Pompey vs Caesar, basically one decisive battle, and that's the civil war, which could have maybe had a second battle if Pompey wasnt killed in Egypt.
