They're shiny because of the way Frontier creates their models. A lot of the details in-game like textures are created within the engine itself.

notice the stripe goes over the eye slightly. The skin is also a little grey

hey if you know how I know there is a JWE skin mod for raptors. I tried to figure out how people export JWE stuff without any luck. But if you know how to convert textures to jpeg files you could use the mod to get the skins
