@demopan make a local copy and edit WSL_SunLamp.xml to change it how you like. Pretty easy to read through and find what needs changing.

If you find other mods that aren't updated it's because I forgot or I'm lazy. Motivation helps.
Is it possible to add such a lamp? For base design, this would much much better / nicer to use.
Basically, put them backwards on the wall, next to the wall technically.
I would also agree it would be nice to put something in front of it/make it in the wall
I'm considering changing the behavior to act more like Wall Lights by Murmur. It would require a tiny bit more coding, but if people want it.
If I did, I would create a "ceiling" version that can just go anywhere.
