Any idea why this disappears when I plop it using RICO ?

@djhsilver this is clear enough :) I could try to change the specular map to give the roof more reflectivity, but I think I'll keep the same tiles because I don't have time to change the UV mapping in 3DS for now..
thank you!

@Darf got it, thank you!

Looking in game, I'm going to make this suggestion: the tiles are to big in proportion to the building, so make them a bit smaller. If you can. And increase the reflectivity/shininess (I can't recall the exact term) of that surface, so it looks more like slate.

It's really hard to actually describe why it looks off to me, it just does. It's like the uncanny valley effect or something? I Googled "french neoclassical mansion" and a lot of them have blue slate or red tile roofs, so that might be why it looks odd. Might also be the normal map but I haven't looked in game. Chateau du Fresne has a shiny slate roof, so it could also be the shininess of the roof. This roof looks more matte, like a piece of fabric than slate tiles.

It's still very good, we can just say it's just your own unique twist on this architecture. Maybe the roof was changed or something; could go into the fictional aspect some people do and say it burned down and the roof is new.

I think it's mainly the shape. You made the width and length of the building the same. If you half the length of the building it would look a lot more realistic. Otherwise some edges on where the roof angles would look quite nice. Apart from that, I think it's very nicely done!

@Dahl @djhsilver @GiometryE
First of all thanks for your criticism, this is my first attempt on this kind of buildings, so please be clement ;-)
Anyway.. sorry guys but I really can't see nothing wrong with the roof.. I mean, I've used seamless slate tiles for the textures which is a technique that often doesn't use "raised edges" (I don't know how they're actually called)..
I haven't understood if the problem is the textures or the shape or what...
Please be more precise so I can improve next time.

@Strechnitz Yeah I see the point. I've used "Chateau du Fresne" as the main inspiration for this project which has no lightwell but neither the same facade proportions of mine (the span is smaller in the "real" one, even if I was not copying any real life building). I should have added it, I'll keep in mind next time, thanks!

that roof could use some work, the edges look nothing like an actual roof would
Strechnitz 2019 年 7 月 9 日 下午 10:07
Hi, the facades look great. But I suggest that you put a lightwell in the middle of the roof. Now the span of the roof is too big to look real and be naturl. Just a little courtyard with two or three widows on each wall so that the center of the building gets some natural light. :-)

For the rest it is a great asset.

The roof looks like a tweed suit! :) It's really nice but that one textural oddity stands out. I honestly am not sure if I like it or not.
Dahl 2019 年 7 月 9 日 下午 1:41
Roof is a bit uh...

Odd?

This looks fantastic and the screenshots really capture it in a perfect setting. Great work!
