Point. Though I figured I'd flesh out the structure, to know where everything was. Then modify it to build from there. What I create from that depends on what I can do. I don't know how to optimize the map better. I'm at vertex limit, and it stutters looking down the long hallway.

we need a story like maybe we are a this episode we are arriving to work 2nd episode it explodes ep3 we are a firefighter arriving to the scence ep4 we are a liquidator either draining the water pumps or cleaning the graphite from the roof, ep 5 the old cover ep 6 the NSC

Ep 3 will be to escape through the remains and hazards immediately after. Ep 4 would be modern-ish day, pre new safe confinement, where we still have the signature sarcophagus, haven't determined story line reason yet. Though this could actually be Ep1, where you start and THEN get sent back in time. The undamaged map was built first in order to figure out how the place was laid out, and to learn how to buid a map in general. Problem is, I've hit map limits, and I need to figure out how to optimize the map better and have no idea how. Kinda a brick wall as it were.

Not yet. The eventual plan is to. Since individual map files are so limited, I'd like to chain a few together into episodes. So I'm thinking of having players dropped into the past, pre accident, to sneak in by reactor 3, scount, maybe acquire an object. continuing to enter reactor 4 area. Maybe have some piped in sounds, overhearing conversations, events around them in episode 2, which hopefully will have destructible structures so an event gets triggered and they have a time limit to get to safety, then it explodes.

Well, got it to update. Temporary problem as I hoped.So maybe I can push more updates. Maybe eliminating structures clipping into eachother will improve performance.

Well, made some small tweaks to the map, but I cannot upload it to the workshop.I get a generic failure when uploading. No really, "generic failure". No error code or anything. I have exhausted just about every troubleshooting step I could find involving garry's mod and uploading to workshop with this error, and even other similar HL based games. Hopefully this is something temporary on Steam's end. Because without a way to resolve this, any updating to this map is ended. It can go no further. And there is very little help that can be found.

Yeah. I can figure out how to make stuff, but I'm sure anyone with any sort of experience would prob look at the file in hammer and be like OMG the craziness. Or more nicely "you did this, um, interestingly. " I honestly could use someone else to help optimize and clean up the noob mess you might not be able to see in game. Though considering I had to make it from a handful of side view and top view low quality blueprints, and some vids and outside shots. I mean I literally started with like an extruded tube laid out like a cross sectional blueprint, and then started chopping out rooms. Connecting them from your videos, etc. Started before the miniseries happened. It would've helped quite a bit seeing things in HD. Lol.

Ok, opened up a room that runs alongside the reactor hall. Do't really know what to do with it if anything. It'd where the deareators are. Which should have a par of large, long pipes running down the length, along with a whole messload of plumbing around it. I'm already right at the map's vertex limit, so not sure what to do, since 4 of those pipes, 2 in each room on either side of the reactor hall, would really eat up vertices that might could be more useful elsewhere, like ladders and such. So I may close the room back off. Dunno. Check out the space though. Picked a helluva place to try and model on my first map. It's a learning experience. Still having issues with lighting glitches, and jitter when looking lengthwise down the facility.

Got a little dicouraged for a bit. Reached brush limits and laggy looking down the hall. Been kinda itching to get back to it lately, but still kinda stumped on how to optimize it better. This is really a bigger than 1 man scale of a project, yet I've been doing it solo.

Ok. I may have some idea to save "brushes" Convert all of the metal stairs to ladders. Not exactly accurate, but consider each step in a brush, and how many steps go from level to level in the reactor hall alone. I'm thinking should save hundreds of brushes. Less objects to render on screen.. More brushes free to detail other places with. Ladders are only like 1 or 2 brushes each. Maybe I can set up a texture that "looks like stair steps to overlay on the ladder instead of the ladder textures. This may also allow me to put ladders up the exterior of the buildings. Also, I may have to make the spent fuel storage building since I don't really have any clue how the inside is laid out.

Yeah. I've been taking a break from it. And trying to figure out how to best proceed. I'm reaching map limits of various types, and lag issues. And have stripped it down to just half of the unit 3/4 pair, with only the major portions mapped out, plus exterior. I want it to be as accurate, and detailed as possible, but it's no fun if it's laggy. It's def something that's on my mind.

Hey! I like the idea!! I can help if you want, I have a collection of pictures and actual schemes of the plant, gathered around russian websites, but I have 0 skills with Hammer. This is by far the most accurate recreation I found yet here. I've attempted to recreate the plant in Minecraft (as it requires 0 modelling skills, using WorldEdit), and it turned out good, I've completed the rooms of the 4th unit up to the 12.5 elevation mark (central hall is 35.5m mark). Looking forward to this!
