Potentially daft question but have you placed additional light sources? (Sounds like a similar issue to one I had with one of my mods)

@Asra Yeah, I figured out a makeshift solution. Try lower you shadow quality, my computer is a potato, so I already have most of my settings at the lowest. that is how come I didn't notice the insane darkness.

Sadly, this was scrapped from Super Mario Galaxy either one or two, can't remember, but it would have made for another adventure that nobody could quite forget.

Lighting is still screwed up for me. I could send you a picture.

Some places are completely dark, not all. When rebuilding lighting, did you choose production quality?

@Asra I'm not that good with the A Hat in Time toolkit, do you mean just the dark shadows of objects, or has the entire level gone dark, and I haven't noticed it. I don't know anyway to fix the dark shadows, I tried updating the cube map, but it didn't help. There is probably a solution that I just don't know. If you know a solution, could you tell me it?

Okay so, the lighting is incredibly bugged. It is waaaay too dark.
