I can only assume you were in a bad mood when you made this worst nitpick ever.
There are a lot of different types of energy, including mechanical, electric, magnetic, gravitational, chemical, ionic, nuclear, radiant, thermal, and so on. Not only is energy a "thing," it is many different things. If the energy gun shoots electricity, it is a product of electrical energy being discharged. If it is a laser weapon, it is using electromagnetic energy. It's an energy gun either way.
"So do bullets."

Also, I forgot to mention the fact that, the energy word is used almost everywhere, regardless of energy wherever or not being given the wrong term.

"energy shot by the energy gun will reach the target instantly" so do bullets
ballistics werent really a thing in video games back in 2004

also: define "energy"
energy is a force applied over a distance (ever heard of W=FxS?)
energy is not a "thing"
