Great map and a great idea. I do think you've made some odd Civ choices though. Why the dutch over the celts or scandinavians for example. Or why the Arabs who did not exist at that time. Why the Russians for the same reason, particularly seen the huns didn't make it, or even the Japanese? Still it's a great concept and I'm enjoying playing the map!

Dang, I swear people don't know Ptolemy from Pangaea. Geez. It's a historical map made early in history, not a map of what the continents looked like before plate tectonics moved them apart. /headslap Geez. No Americas or Japan because it wasn't discovered in the world yet in Ptolemy's time.

Those who fail to learn history are doomed to make stupid comments about it.

I'd love to play on these maps! Sadly, despite having a quad core processor and 12Gb of RAM, late game turns can take several minutes to process. This just sucks the feeling of progress out of the game for me. Is there any chance of you scaling these maps down a little (say to large/standard sizes?

No they weren't. They were phenominally smart for their age. Back then, we didn't even know what fire was; philosophers ask the big questions and challange theories, and since their was no evidence to contradict his philosophical notions, they were all completely sound.
