SEAD the DS marks
If you’re quick to take out the SAMs, you won’t have to refuel.
Take out as many SAMs as possible so the bombers won’t get shot down
1. Perform SEAD
1.1 Sorting out the first few SAM launchers with TGP and destroying them with either GBU39s or AGM65s.
1.2 Whilst performing 1.1 I shot SAM Missles that locked me with my own AIRS-Ts (I can't evade^^)
1.3 Destroying the DC Cruisers Radar dishes with AGM88s or AGM65s so it stops harrasing me
1.4 keep destroying SAMs for the next objective to trigger
2. Destroy Objective
2.1 Once I was told to protect the bombers I approchoached their target myself.
2.2 Get eyes on the SAM-Network at the last enemy airbase with TGP.
2.3 Sending GPS-Data with GPS-S for each SAM launcher (5-7 launchers)
2.4 Dropping my remaining GBU39s. (Make sure to configure your GBUs properly)
3. RTB
After refueling the bombers just circle the area on after burners and don't do anything.
It's really frustrating to do a whole long mission with pointless air refueling despite there being an airbase nearby, just for the objective to get glitched.
It'd be great to have more missions but shorter. There is no persistent save in this game, so 1h long missions are a no go. People with quest 2 might not even be able to finish by the time battery runs out if they have to load save a lot
You follow them in and they bomb some stuff in the city, turn around, and go to the tanker to refuel as well. This takes a good 20+ minutes as all the bombers want to refuel and they take awhile. Afterwards they just circle around in the same are as the tanker near the base never doing anything.
The objective (#6) never changes, keeps telling me to burn like help and escort the bombers but they just keep doing circles around our base. I thought maybe the mission is over so I eventually land and try to end the mission, but it doesn't count as completed.
Missile evasion is a topic in itself, there is a workshop mission specially made for this, even with a youtube tutorial check https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2189296631
Personally what I manage to pull reliably against radar missiles is 1) hiding from the radar behind ground cover, just a split second is enough (difficult in the flat desert, I know) and 2) going straight for the ground so the missile crashes trying to lead me. For bigger long range missiles you can also "cheat" using AIRS-T and head tracking to shoot them.
IR missiles are easier to avoid: have some speed, then reduce throttle for several seconds (let after burner cool down), release flares while turning hard, done. Tricker with lots of them of course, because several of these manoeuvrers in succession will slow down a lot the aircraft.
Well aware of the map load times :) unfortunately thats the look I was going for.... Thats part of why I tried to keep the missions a bit longer.
Small advice for the author: to reduce map loading times, try cutting down on the cities surfaces, this is the most painfully slow to load.
Happens in Mission 1 right after getting to first waypoint along the border and in mission 3 after strike group destroyed last targets.
Thank you very much for the effort of putting this together.
I think one is stuck behind a line of bombers that wait to take off but never do. Is there a way to correct his?
I had to go out onto the sand to get around them and make it to the runway myself.
I decided to limit saves because this mission was developed before and during the save game testing. I wanted to develop a campaign that was more "realistic" and harsh. That is why there is forced air to air refueling, limited saves, and a whole bunch of flying without any action. And guess what? The first strikes during Desert Storm were... you guessed it... AT NIGHT.
Why bother playing a game like this if you can't take the time to learn it and become proficient? It takes hours and hours of practice, I'm not going to dumb down a campaign if you aren't willing to become better yourself.
In mission two the tanker flies at a relatively low speed (I think its about 300 knots) in a large racetrack indicated in the briefing images. If you're trying to refuel against a plane faster than that.... you should probably check what you're following. The bomber flies at near supersonic, if not more, at a high altitude on a south to north track to the large city. If youre having trouble getting your wingmen to refuel, fall back a little ways and command them to refuel and they should do it. There is a minimum fuel check of about 80% I believe, so as long as you (the player) have more than 80% fuel then you should be cleared to the next objective.
