Thanks for the simplification. It's hard to describe a process from an error you have to induce to test!

To remove the roaming fanatic you have to replace the roaming fanatic mod with the removal patch while your last save is in the town, then start a quest and when you are in the dugeon quit to the menu. Disable the removal patch and resume your save and finish your quest. (I did this and it worked for me)

this mod is to remove the original without it causing a crash. This mod itself though may need to stay enabled. not entirely sure, but it doesn't do anything other than remove the roaming aspect so it should be fine

No problem. Let me know if it works for you as it could work differently depending on if your on a menu, in a mission, etc.
