so apparently if you toggle no clipping and go through the firepit and under the wooden layer you will reach water with three chests filled with random goodies. *you have to go straight down into the fire.

Excellent idea, Riften was a bit too dark to my taste.

They are wells. You an straight up in the Ragged Flaggon CISTERN.

I also figured this thing & the one in Solitude, Whiterun, etc were community wells.

If this was originally a well that leads underground...Why can't you travel through it"It is a stupid concept as a well." Nice idea for a fire pit.

The firepit looks so natural that I almost forget the hollow pit that was there before. Thank you, the Riften market looks amazing with this.

this is a good idea....but how about a pool or a sauna there in stead?

Actually, just using architectural logic, the Cistern would be directly under the Temple of Mara, so I do not see how the marketplace would be above the Cistern. This mod is one of those great little touches, because the black hole that was the fire pit always bothered me (I, for one, did not interpret it to be a water well). A fire pit makes more sense to me.

Isn't this supposed to be right on top of the cistern, where the thieves guild hang out? Makes no sense seen from below, if still open.

If you use the tcm command and look inside of it, it is literally just a black hole. Such a terrible waste of space, this makes it so much cooler. Thanks :)!!

hey there! thanks for the follow up on my comment. Wasn't trying to bash your mod, just trying to explain how it clashed with my prefered style of game play. That being said, I just thought of something that would work perfectly with this mod--using the darkest night that comes with CoT. Those are literally pitch black and your char would need to be a khajit or have some sort of night vision to travel at night. So now I'm thinking my current TG char might be able to sneak around at night without night vision aids after all. Well at least at Riften anyways. lol!

Anyways, I'll definately consider adding it when I switch chars to a less stealthy class. Might even consider using such a char to eliminate the TG completely from Riften. Nothing would make Mjoll (who typcially ends up being my char's wife) happier come to think of it :D Insightful mod though.

Thanks @Alaric the Visgoth for the comments! I play a "heavy" class. Pretty muched maxed out on all weaponds, armor, and enchantments, so me personaly I dont have any use playing stealthy. I would love to adjust the mod for everyone but it just isnt possible! Thanks again for the comment!

@Caine VanScythe: was thinking the same thing. While a decent idea, a central firepit is waaay too bright and immersion breaking for me. Particularly given all the nocturnal NPC activity going on in that market place area after sunset. Because it kills the opportunity for any stealth chars anywhere in that area.

Especially for NPC TG wanabee sneak thiefs. These lowly TG bottom feeders prefer relieving Riften's upstanding citizenry of their hard earned valuables in the early hours of the morning when it's usually darkest out.

But if you don't care about the TG or playing stealth chars, then this is probably one of the best ways to functionally upgrade Riften IMO.

Seems cool. I'm not going to say anything about the well and the ratway connection, enough people have done that. But for me personally,
having a bright fire pit outside kinda takes away from the dark, gloomy, and miserable atmosphere the raggedy town is supposed to have. It's a cool idea, but to me it doesn't compliment the lore of Riften very well.

Simple yet brilliant, dosn't matter if its a well its not usable anyway.
Besides looks nicer with the fire in it.

My character and the town's guard (Imperials) were actually ambushed by a small group of Stormcloaks that used the well interior as fortified cover to fire their bows from. This occurred after the completion of the Civil War quests (Imperial victory) and took me by complete surprise - representative of remnant insurgents I guess. Be mindful of this if you intend using the mod which I do look upon as a nice idea.

It's a nice idea, but I think that's supposed to be a well. Remember, the Ragged Flagon is below it, with that pool of water in the center.

You do know that place were you put the fire pit is a well or possibly a large sewer entrance because the thieves guild hideout is right below it.
