Updated (finally) to 0.7.
Also, @cosmic lemon-Nades, thanks for the poem :D

what a hodge podge

When ideas rush the mind and overflow the gates of work you finally set down to create,
it is nice to know that one thing is possible but more things are greater than great.

"Why not an engine!" I thought to myself when brainstorming the topic of trains,
"An engine so nimble and long and powerful it could haul a mountain even if it rains!"

When the engine was ready I rolled it about prepping it for the first test,
The day went by and the engine was fine but now it is time for it's rest.

Some friends of mine joined to help me with building to give my engine a home,
after they left I finished the build and that is when I named it "Jerome".

Over the months the engine lay silent gathering up rust due to oxygenation,
Then Years went by then the boiler got dry waiting to be filled by a future generation.

For now the engine sleeps and rests in it's fame and glory,
until the time that the engine shall wake that's the end of the story.

The blueprint has been updated to an easy to configure prefab.

@Johnbeere, Thanks. This will help greatly.

You can update an existing blueprint; you need to just replace the blueprint with clipboard and re-publish the blueprint.

Unfortunately I cannot just update an existing blueprint, thus I've created the 'mk2' further adding the chests for weighting. For pasting from blueprint one needs to use the 'Prefab' version, which comes with the subgrids rigidly connected (for connecting ropes) and without main wheels (to be added after placing the ropes).

@TheWhiteFox: For heavier trains you need to make a drive unit heavier. There are two ways: either glue more weights on the bottom (using spectator build) or place a small chest somewhere (Xaerthus idea) and fill it with something heavy (stones, ingots). I am going to switch to chests instead of permanent weights for the updated blueprint. I was using this locomotive in survival for grade up to 10%. Also happy new year!

My biggest Problem was to drive the train upwards the hill because i build in a Mountain area and the Train struggled to go upwards, but thanks to the Locomotive from Xaerthus its a bit easier, but i need a more powerfull one(the Heavy version from him don't work for me). But here is my little train( https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/profiles/76561198136931664/screenshot/956352087429146564
), and i hope so for the updated Version from you.

And a HAPPY NEW YEAR from Germany

No problem, its still a nice looking train locomotive.

Ah, I see. The idea was to remove the wheels one at a time, connect the ropes, then pot each wheel back. It is however next to impossible to do if the drive unit is already disconnected from the support frame and resting on the track. Will have to update the blueprint so that both frames are connected. Thanks for letting me know about this problem.

Ok nice, i struggle to connect the behind the wheels
onca77  [作者] 2018 年 12 月 31 日 上午 11:12
@TheWhieFox: What is the nature of the difficulty? The shafts are moving when pasting the blueprint or you need some 'map' specifying what to connect? Unfortunately blueprints do not save the rope connections. Some of pictures are made to show the critical connections. Also I tried to explain the setup in the 'rope belt configuration' section of the description. In the next couple of days I will try and update the blueprint with temporary rigid connections (to be removed after pasting) to make the setup easier.

Is there a easy way to connect the ropes on the wheels, i struggle to connect them. Or can i somehow spawn it in with them connected.
onca77  [作者] 2018 年 12 月 29 日 下午 2:56
@Xaerthus, thanks. I really like your designs and the ideas that went into critical systems. The similarity is superficial, as practically all the solution which went into key components (suspension, transmission) are quite different.
Xaerthus 2018 年 12 月 28 日 上午 6:20
Thanks for linking to my design! I gave you credit as AFAIK you were first to come up with a wheel based design and mine is quite similar (though I actually found it just now :D )

It seems that the heavy rail industry is blooming in medieval engineers. Please check out the very well worked construction of a heavy locomotive by Xaerthus: https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1603674360 .
Johnbeere 2018 年 12 月 25 日 下午 1:43
@cosmic lemon-Nades you need to use the scroll wheel to use different versions of the engines.
Redeye 2018 年 12 月 24 日 下午 9:51
well that escalated quickly
Cosmic Lemonade 2018 年 12 月 24 日 下午 8:51
HOW DO YOU GET THE STEAM POWERED ROTOR BLOCK TO COME OUT THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE?
Cosmic Lemonade 2018 年 12 月 24 日 下午 5:47
good work in concept btw
Cosmic Lemonade 2018 年 12 月 24 日 下午 5:47
ima work on my iron will locomotive now!

Spock The Builder , originally I have in fact tried using gears in this build but they appear to be unable to transfer sufficient torque (at least in the configurations I've tried). The effect was what in real life would be the shearing of teeth. Definitely a version with two pairs of driving wheels and one engine can be made, but such unit was too weak for my purposes (pulling train of at least three 10m long wagons of grade up to 10%). Maybe connecting shorter driving unit to the support frame would require less moving parts, which would definitely be a gain.
Spock The Builder 2018 年 12 月 20 日 上午 8:24
Would be cool to see a similar version with just one engine and gears instead of ropes. I kinda made one from this blueprint, but I'm still messing with the wheel types, gear ratios. etc and will probably rebuild. Definitely some good ideas in there
