Remember, there's a built-in spray in HL1 saying that Linux is better, and Valve's own OS is based on Linux, so this is probably what Valve would've done if they had a similar startup sequence thing.

in all honesty, the HEV probably uses a heavily modified version of Windows NT 4.0 or 5.0

Dumb question, but what if I want to change the name listed during bootup? I want to change it from Freeman, Gordon, to something else.
I tried modifying the existing file in the VPK but all that does is ruin the alignment but keep the old text.

For me, the last 2 lines of text are still the same as the vanilla game. I saw your earlier comment saying that you changed something else to fix this, but it does not seem to work.

It happened to me too, I discovered that if I only changed 18 of the 20 lines it worked, so I changed one of the other resources to read 18 lines instead.

Halo was made by Bungie who exclusively made games for Apple computers until Microsoft bought the rights to Halo, which is a successor to one of the Mac's biggest FPS franchises, Marathon. Microsoft didn't make Halo, they just own it. And now the series sucks since Bungie left so eh lol

How'd you get this to work? Any time I attempt to change this sequence myself it either outputs random Unicode chars or crashes the game.
