so, @lightfooted..... do you still live in the town? I live in Northland, right off of Parvin Road.

And of course, me and my dad will do our annual visit there on Memorial Day to... you know what Kansas Citians call the Liberty Memorial.... lol

@Major, it's been a slowly evolving project; one that I've not spent as much time on as I'd like over the years. I used terrain.party [terrain.party] to make a 1:1 recreation of Kansas City's terrain in Cities Skylines, based on US geographical survey data. Then used Overlayer to map out the streets as they are in real life.

Not satisfied with having just a 'skeleton' of my city, I started turning more and more to asset creation; so that not just her streets and topography, but her architecture too could live in this game. To be perfectly clear, I'm nowhere near as dedicated to the project as writing this would have you think. And the knowledge that I'll never be truly happy with it, makes it a struggle to carry on with it at times... But a natural desire to create, fueled by a love of the surroundings that shape us, can be equally hard to fight.

Hello, love these mods of Kansas City and they are spot on, i was wondering in the background there in the pictures used above if that is a Kansas City map, like how they made the NYC Map, Or is it just a little something for this particular picture?

@aubergine 1914-18. 55% of male Italians and Bulgarians aged 18 to 50 were called to military service. Elsewhere the proportions were even higher: 63% of military-aged men in Serbia, 78% in Austro-Hungary and 81% of military-aged men in France and Germany served. -https://www.bl.uk/world-war-one/articles/recruitment-conscripts-and-volunteers

Commissar Blues 2018 年 11 月 13 日 上午 6:43
@aubergine18 To be fair, not all of them were serial killers, but there were groups of people who did want to join the war just for the joy of killing and looting. Though, the rest were conscripted, drafted, and joined on their own to defend their own country or their country's allies. Take for example the French, they wanted to protect themselves from having to study up on their German, and the Germans attacked France and Russia to support Austria-Hungary and protect them, meanwhile the Russians attacked the Germans and Austro-Hungarians to protect Serbia. So, there are bound to be a few killers in a bunch, but not all of them were cold-hearted. I suggest you read "All Quiet on the Western Front", because it actually illustrates the life of a German soldier who joined in the war with his friends, and learned the true nature of it and lost many of his friends through it.

It's literally a gian phallus erected over the names of a bunch of serial killers.

Every war in history could have been instantly stopped by the troops shooting the person giving the orders to start the war. Funny how that never happens.

They don't protect our freedoms, they pillage and loot for profit. And, as long as people worship at their altars, the wars will continue.

Memorial Day: Thanks For Being Dead, Soldier -- there's a blog post of the same name, I suggest you read it.
Tjork 2018 年 11 月 12 日 下午 8:42
@Aubergine18 Must be the weirdest way of saying thank you to your military to whom protects the freedoms that give you the very right to speak negatively of your own military and government and those who lead it. That level of freedom comes at a cost. So unless you come from a country where you have to hide behind a VPN because you have no personal freedoms or come from a country that exists only because other powerful militaries protect it; I say YOU are WELCOME for my service.

Thank you to all those who serve. Not just to the soldiers or the airmen or the sailors, but also to all the civilians who work along side them back home and in the forward bases. Don't forget that they also serve, just without a uniform.
Dimensional One 2018 年 11 月 12 日 下午 8:21
aubergine18,, funny how I don't see you asking that question of the very people that started these wars. Sometimes fighting back in order to proctect people that can't defend themselves is the only answer. Unless you want to become a slave or dead. War isn't glamorous. But that kind of courage is. Who's right or wrong is something that people will debate forever, and that answer will change over time due to the social and political climate of the day. BUT THOSE THAT HAVE GIVEN ALL, IN ORDER TO FIGHT WHAT THEY BELIEVED A MORAL WAR IN ORDER TO SAVE LIVES OR PROTECT THE FREEDOMS THAT ALLOW OUR SOCIETYS TO CONTINUE WITH SOME SENSE OF FREEDOM, IS IMPORTANT AND HONORABLE.

This is a beautiful asset done with great care and skill. I for one, would like to join the others that have already thanked you for it. In loving memory and tribute.
Grand Cheese Wedge 2018 年 11 月 12 日 下午 4:28
@Aubergine18 The Troops are people simply supporting their countries and wanting to give back to it and defend it. They aren't the ones who decide who we go to war with. Do you really think it works that way? Armies don't wage wars. Governments do.
SuburbanSean 2018 年 11 月 12 日 下午 2:12
Amazing asset, love that someone made a WWI memorial.
Lightfooted  [作者] 2018 年 11 月 12 日 上午 5:26
We understand the strong military men hurt you aubergine, but you're doing a terrible job at garnering our sympathy.

WW1: The war to end all wars. LOLOLOL

You can't be against war whilst simultaneously supporting the people who make it possible: Troops.

If you're reading this, my Momma's sitting there
Looks like I only got a one way ticket over here
Sure wish I could give you one more kiss
War was just a game we played when we were kids

I'm laying down my gun
I"m hanging up boots
I'm up here with God and we're both watching over you

So lay me down
In that open field out on the edge of town
And know my soul
Is where my momma always prayed
That it would go
If you're reading this
I'm already home

Steel Driver 2018 年 11 月 11 日 下午 9:57
@abuergine18 The majority of countries involved didn't want this war to happen. I think you need to read up on the events that led up to the war, as well as the parties involved, before you go and sprout that crap.
Mr Scruffles 2018 年 11 月 11 日 下午 9:33

As a matter of fact, you can learn about the effects the Great War had on the civilian populations, including the horrors in Armenia as well as througout Europe inside this museum. Maybe you visit one, or go to school or something...
leftbehind 2018 年 11 月 11 日 下午 7:30
Was there ever a memorial to all the civilians who the warmongers slaughtered? There's lots of memorials to the terrorists themselves, but their victims seem forgotten. What was it? Something like 20 million people murdered by the troops in various countries. And the wars are endless and continue to this day. I don't get why people love state-sanctioned organised mass murder so much.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead; short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe!
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high!
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

I don't know about Aubergine, but I for one will be happy if the only place we find War is in a museum.
