Do any of these apply to Old English?

also what are the highlanders meant to represent?

you could add Hobelars, Irish light calvary and calvary archers.

Also helps the recurves of the Turks and Mongols were designed for mounted use. Important to note though, even those fantastic bows could not outrange infantry bows. The true advantage of Turkish and Mongol Horse archers lay in their absolutely amazing mobility and years of training, not in any mythical property of the weapons as some try to claim.

true, true.

@Catto
Tell that to the Turks and Mongols

It was also not as accurate, since y'know, riding a horse tends to mess with your aim.

@Speedyblupi: While you are (mostly) correct, there have been recorded incidences of mounted Longbowmen being utilised whilst still mounted during the 100 Years War period. It was certainly not common, but it was done. It was generally done when speed and surprise were a primary requirement, such as in one case an assault upon a Ford across a river.

So yes, most of the time the Mounted Longbowmen were more akin to later Dragoons, mounted infantry who used their mounts for tactical and strategic mobility and flexibility upon the battlefield but fought dismounted. However, there are cases where they did in fact fight mounted, though the longbow will never be as effective used mounted as you simply do not have the bracing to draw the bow to full draw, so you *will* sacrifice range and rate of fire in comparison to dismounted use.

@Luna Assassin
The longbow was not historically used from horseback. Even if it is technically possible to do so, it doesn't mean it was practical.
That wikipedia page does not say the longbow was used from horseback, it says longbowmen would be used alongside mounted troops.

@Xillan
Tell me about the Old Gods DLC :3
I'll accept your request and make a Pictish Retinue ^^/
Xillan 2018年10月29日 18時55分
I know and i understand why they are not included, I just have a love for ( and I know I am in the minority here) The Early Middle Ages start date and the Picts in general. so I end up being that guy because everyone forgets they are in the game:steamhappy:

@Xillan
They don't exist beyond the High Medieval Era unless you buy DLCs, so I'll probably making a seperated retinue mod for the Picts.
Xillan 2018年10月29日 18時08分
What about the picts?:steamsad:

There were mounted archers used in England during the 15th Century, but they fought in a fashion similar to dragoons of the 17th century - namely, using their horses to for added mobility. The longbow is too difficult to effectively use on horseback.

@Luna Assasssin Thanks! Good to learn new things

I agree with @Lord Colquhoun , The Irish retinues are a little weak and a retinue with heavy and light infantry would balance it out.

@the High Pinger
It has been recorded to have being used on horseback, but probably extremely rare

@Lord Colquhoun
There's already a Gallowglass retinue for the Irish culture. The shocktrooper are actually based on the Kerns, but Irish Shocktrooper sounds better XD
Zwei833 the Buggy Modder 2018年10月21日 17時53分
I don't think English mounted longbow existed in history, any reference?
Brave New Tarkil 2018年10月21日 11時14分
This is a little pandantic, but you could add a unit for the Irish and rename the shock trooper retinue.

Kerns - light-infantry usually acting as skirmishers
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kern_(soldier)

Rename shock trooper to
Gallowglass - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallowglass

Sorry to be pandantic; thanks for the mod.

@Cooltater
Oops, my bad. And yes, it's 400 light infantry, thanks for pointing out! ^^
Cooltater 2018年10月13日 7時04分
In Highlander portion you list heavy infantry twice but I figured the light infantry would be the 400 troop count.
