This is good to know. You have more than 20 units plus the ships at once. I will have to check what our mod fix did again. It feels like lifetimes since I spent months on this mod.

Any way, I tried testing some other mods for hours with your mod, came to solving missing early garrison ships is by using your bug fix mod and Athanasios Ultimate Fixes above this mod to bring the fancy garrison ships after waiting 1 turn. HA! You mentioned the solution already at description. And I want to tell you that some garrison are more than 20 units + 4 - 6 wall onagers + 3 - 4 ships without special buildings.

Thanks dude don't bother looking, now all coastal setts have some ships running the logical show.

While playing as Belisarius LR, I meant even historically this doesn't make sense that all coastal setts do not have basic garrison ships which Vandals at this time supposed to have strong navy, neither the Vandals nor the ERE have. I was at sea as expedition (horde) in ally's port circle, thought I'm having reinforcements from their garrison fleet, then attacked by dedicated small Vandal fleet taking advantage of my sea sick troops, could not find allied naval ships to support my transport ships xD, then figured out that all coastal setts have zero garrison ships !!

I can look but I recall that the ship garrisons were not as helpful as having more units in-city. CA makes the garrison cap at 20 units. A full city will often have special buildings that would easily max out this limit. Winning port battles comes down to the shoreline defense and ships simply don't have enough space or time to contribute. How do you use your ships in coastal defense?

I just enjoy playing campaigns including this mod, very compatible , mods friendly and gives meaning to attacking setts is not just a piece of cake.
Just noticed that coastal setts and cities do not have naval garrison until the port is level 3! Which is okay but most factions do not develop techs that unlock ports level 3 so easily.
It may takes half of campaign to get a faction level 3 port and start getting naval garrison, otherwise its coastal setts stay unprotected from sea attacks.

I just recommend adding minor garrison ships to early level ports 1 & 2.

Overall your mods are so great and balanced. I really like your work. Much appreciated.

The whole idea of WRE tactics was a 3 pronged form of mobile defence; because the Romans were not powerful enough to maintain ''the line'' at the borders. They had accepted incursions would penetrate their borders. Thus; the Limitanei would track and slow down invasions and call upon the larger regional armies for assistance. If the Limitanei and the regional armies could not deal with the issue; then the central army based in Northern Italy under the supreme commander would then 'be called upon''.

Attila would be better if there was less reliance on sieges against over powered and unhistorical garrisons. This is especially so in Italy, Spain and Gaul


Suggestion: Balance the game so there's less reliance on overpowered and unrealistic garrisons; and mod the game so proper realistic regional armies can be recruited. Also balance the game so a historical force in Northern Italy can be formed

Additionally:

In Northern Italy you have a few Marine type units in the Ports garrisons. On the rest of the Italian mainland you have approximately 16 Sarmatarum gentilium units.

In Gaul you have realistically 5 Dukes with small forces made up of D) type units
In Gaul you also have approximately 21 units that are actually under the command of the Count of Italy (Magister Peditium). These units are: Sarmatarum gentilium,Marines and Laetorum (Various Germanic units)
In Spain you also have 6 D) type units
In Britain you also have 2 Dukes with a small and a large army made up of D) type units
In Africa you also have 2 Dukes with a small army each which is made up of D) type units
In Illyrici you also have 4 Dukes with significant armies made up of D) type units

A) = Scholares B) = Palatini C) = Comitatenses D) = Limitanei

In Northern Italy you have a small force of Emperors escort with A) type units

I was in the middle of it in August then life happened. I could resume it; it will take 4 days but then it will require acceptance testing unless you want me to leave that part out.

I have a new version of this that I haven't completed. In this mod you will see the tricks that Skidvar used and I improved to fix the AI. I didn't realize that old garrisons are kept here. This mod is very close to Skidvar's version so I would check if this bug appears. Maybe I messed up the last upload.

On Perdita and minor overhauls: This mod should work. FOTE: I expect there will be some challenges with this.

I tried it, old garrison are kept, but new ones are added. There is a unit whose name does not appear, and in others the background of the card is yellow.
I'll try a new campaign later .....

New version has been in the works for a while. The template is the ideal. I think the ERE and Barb garrisons need to be fleshed out a bit more. Nevertheless, the template breaks all conventions and fixes the same bugs that the 100 garrison updates from Athanasios fixes.

This is both a mod and a template for other mods. Feel free to adjust it to your tastes as it is built to be easy to understand ( relative to other garrison mods out there).
