Yes -- the armor here is just aesthetic / to cover internals.

This ship was actually created for a forum challenge, http://childrenofadeadearth.boards.net/thread/3379/challenge-featherlights , trying to cut cost and mass wherever possible while keeping 4 km / s -- but better armor would make this much more sensible to use.

I would suggest that a couple thin layers of aluminum make more sense than aerogel for civilian ships, as it provides both whipple shielding and insulation for the cryogenic fuel.
