I have a 13600K and 32GB ram. What maximum size would you recommend? Also, is there a biome mod that you'd recommend go with this?
Mixarar 5 iun. 2023 la 11:37
Be warned though it does take a long time to load it.
Mixarar 5 iun. 2023 la 11:37
works perfectly fine, you should check mod settings the option giant is no longer there, however mod works as advertised

@Ryukae Last time I used it, worked perfectly, but it was 6 months ago.
Ryukae 14 iun. 2022 la 12:11
Does this still work?
Swaggy  [autor] 27 mai 2022 la 16:43
Yep I used MR, see my reply in MR's comments hopefully it will address your question.

Q: What worldgen settings/mods were used to create the circular patchwork of biomes in your thumbnails? Looks a bit like Megarandom but I'm not sure, and without worldgen mods our server always ends up kinda "flower-petals", if that makes sense.
Swaggy  [autor] 24 dec. 2021 la 9:03
Yes @Digi62 @KawattaMe it is possible to make the world smaller, please check this file:

mods\workshop-1402122582\modinfo.lua

Even without knowing about modding I believe it should be rather easy to tweak, just set the "data" value to something smaller than 450.

for example, replace:

{description = "1.1x Larger", data = 480},

==>

{description = "My new size", data = 200},

Then select "My new size" in the game

Unfortunately due to how the game works the biomes look much weirder, IIRC I tried it in the past and decided to not include it by default. Let me know how it goes.
Digi62 9 nov. 2021 la 13:31
Would it be possible to create a world smaller than the one available?
KawattaMe 24 aug. 2021 la 12:57
Is there a mod that does the opposite? that makes the world smaller?
pbc (temiruya) 20 aug. 2021 la 3:06
by latest official update, a new game crash with the mod.
Swaggy  [autor] 12 febr. 2021 la 15:28
Tropical Experience, Cherry Forest, Green World, Windy Plains (if not bugged), Megarandom cave biomes
Carnage 11 febr. 2021 la 21:11
Do you have a suggestion for what 'new biomes' mods to use along side of this?
Jägermeister 5 sept. 2020 la 1:15
Yes I understand. Do you think your mod is compatible with the Setpiece Config Mod (https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2012031749) ?
Swaggy  [autor] 2 sept. 2020 la 16:48
No or very marginally, unlike regular objects which number should increase proportionally with size, set pieces are in a fixed amount no matter the size. You might see 1-2 more than usual because sometimes set pieces don't spawn if there is no room left, and this is less likely to happen with Giant, but that should be very marginal.
Jägermeister 2 sept. 2020 la 8:57
Hey, I have a question. Does a bigger map generate more setpieces then a smaller one?
Taka 19 mai 2020 la 20:55
hi may I know where in the local files of dst can I edit the map size generation?
Dęąth Viper 26 apr. 2020 la 21:07
Does this work with IA?
Nikki Darks 22 apr. 2020 la 7:13
This only makes it bigger, right? Should make a version of this that makes it like, very small. If you haven't already! <3
Swaggy  [autor] 15 apr. 2020 la 16:06
Yes, that's normal then. The 32-bit limit is per-process, which is why hosting caves reduces crashes (consumes more memory, but splits into 2 processes).

McGibblers I've already summarized a lot of info on that topic. Make sure to take a look at the link I posted. Main lines are: don't play if the client uses 2.7 GB or more when starting the world or it will eventually be unstable, and install Linux for 2x more memory and incredibly faster loading times (as long as you have a GPU).
Whitegrave 14 apr. 2020 la 17:31
@Swaggy

I believe the 7gb is split between 3 separate processes. The overworld server, the cave server, and the user play environment.

Here's some proof

Whitegrave add me. I already have a a big collecgtion of mods I have that work together and Im also trying to get giant size to work with these. lets compare notes
Swaggy  [autor] 14 apr. 2020 la 11:47
I'm a bit confused how you manage to have a 32-bit process use 7 GB RAM. Has a 64-bit version of DST been released ?

Also this might be worth a read : link , especially the "play on Linux" part.
Whitegrave 13 apr. 2020 la 19:14
Hey guys. I've been doing a ton of trial and error to get enormous maps working, specifically with tropical experience and creeps from the deeps included.

In the current state of mods for DST, it's not possible to do this with Megarandom or any mods that require Gem Core API.

I have successfully generated worlds at 4x giant settings with TE and CFtD content included by following the above restrictions. This includes also having caves (huge) enabled simultaneously.

For those interested, this costs 7gb of ram to host a 4x server so your PC will need 16gb to accomplish this.

I am also using the server assets mods to minimize the memory costs.
Dęąth Viper 9 apr. 2020 la 19:23
IM USING IT WITH TROPICAL EXPERIENCE AND A LOT OF OTHER BIOME MODS! Ill let you know if I crash haha

@MayaStoat Sure. Just credit EvenMr, he's the one who found the code
♡ Kitty Cat ♡ 31 dec. 2019 la 14:50
Hello there, Would it be okay if I incorporate the code from this mod into the Custom Maps feature of Creative Commands? I'll be sure to give credit where it's due.
Gabe Newell 13 dec. 2019 la 19:01
My computer is on fire, I think it's working
Swaggy  [autor] 8 dec. 2019 la 4:52
I guess so. You can quickly test this by generating a world and revealing it with "map reveal" mod. Please let me know
Huginn 7 dec. 2019 la 17:46
is this mod working correctly even with the changes to the ocean?
Swaggy  [autor] 28 sept. 2019 la 9:53
You can set the size you want by tweaking the modinfo.lua in my mod directory. Try setting a size like 20 and see if it works.
雪绕风飞 28 sept. 2019 la 9:05
how about a mini size
Swaggy  [autor] 29 iun. 2019 la 14:13
@Hornet I don't think this will change anything to memory usage. I have run some tests with my Megarandom mod custom shapes, it seems what really matters is the number of tiles, not really the surface of the world.
Hornet 29 iun. 2019 la 13:59
Hm.... Alright Thank you, I just want a bigger world, but due to memory issues I want to cut it down to a rectangular shape. Thanks anyways.
Swaggy  [autor] 29 iun. 2019 la 13:54
@Hornet I don't think you can do this with the current way the game code works. Through modding you can add properties to the world and tweak parameters, but ultimately the map generation process is done by a low-level function that is not accessible through modding. Check out "WorldSim:GenerateVoronoiMap" in forest_map.lua .Unfortunately this function fills the map in a circular way and you cannot change that directly. So you will have to find a way to change tiles after the world has been generated. I could be wrong but I don't think it's reasonable, it will require a lot of reverse engineering and spend a lot of time on your side reading the source files.
Try to ask vagnerderochasantos (developer from Tropical Experience), he might have done something similar in his mod.
I heard with the next update the map generation will change, maybe you'll be lucky ! :s
Hornet 29 iun. 2019 la 12:34
Hello! I'm wondering if you could make a rectangular option avaiable? For one of my world projects, I need a rectangular world. if your not able to add that to this mod, i'm wondering if you could guide me on how I could make a rectangular-shaped world? Thank you
Swaggy  [autor] 27 mai 2019 la 12:41
@󰀀 Goth.K There are some other good mods for that, like Tropical Experience + Megarandom or Megarandom alone . Unfortunately this mod uses too much memory and you will probably not be able to generate giant maps with them, so I have personally stopped using it.
󰀀 Goth.K 27 mai 2019 la 1:13
love this mod.if that was possible. that would be nice if you work on generating world algorithm. and make less borig worlds.
Swaggy  [autor] 30 apr. 2019 la 11:06
@ify Yes, you are running out of memory. No fix for that, you will have to disable some mods or hope Klei release a 64-bit version of Don't Starve one day.

With your combination of mods you can forget about Giant maps completely, actually I'd already be surprised if you manage to make Megarandom + Tropical + Multi Worlds run properly.

Check Megarandom "Out of memory" discussion for more details.
ian 14 apr. 2019 la 21:48
I'm crashing every time I use this mod on default settings alongside; Megarandom+Multi World+Tropical+Green World (I've tested them alone and without Giant they all work) Error message reads something about memory limit or run out of memory. Any ideas?

There is a Glitch Where the Ruines is Split in two and on the oppisite side of the map
Swaggy  [autor] 14 iul. 2018 la 8:08
================= NEW MAJOR UPDATE, PLEASE READ =================

In the new version, the way to use the mod has changed:

● There is no more patch and no "Giant" map size to select anymore.
● Now you need to enable the mod while creating the map and the size selected in the mod settings will be used. (Don't worry, it will overwrite the size selected on the server screen)

@EvenMr I am very open if you have other ideas, that's just the only way I've found to make it work.

Can I help rewrite this mod? The current way to change the sizing seems kind of, emmm, rude...
