Love the idea of this mod but why a Roman style bright red shield

can I use this in my romans mod? would it make people's game crash because the npcs spawn with it in improper inventory locations? idk
also, is this a weapon or an armor? I know you can set things to be equipped to the different slots, but I was just trying to figure out how you got it in there and also the guy is using his sword

ima1zu3 well it does fit with the Holly nation and second it is his mod you should have more respect for some one that makes a mod and posts it to steam on THEIR OWN TIME. i suggest if you DEMAND a different shield design it and post it your self, if not then be a little more respectful of the effort put forward by others and make suggestions or requests to the mod developer.

Crashes hard if you accidentally buy a shield with no room, but already have a sheild equiped. Also if you just try and put another sheild on the bar next to the currently equiped sheild.

@Stumple, can you post when you have updated the game crashing bug fix?

The Japanese thought using a shield was dishonorable and it died out around 300 A.D. (shoulder plates and siege shields exempt) so you won't find much there. But something like a rusted (poor quality) or tarnished (good) metal kite shield would be really cool.

Well that's weird then because the very same export crashed without the .material and didn't once i let it ;).
But yeah for normal stuff the .material is useless.
I'll try making the icon big enough so you can't have 2 in same slot maybe. should prevent crash

Arkhiel, you don't need to copy the .material file (it's useless). I put forgot to delete it haha sorry about that. You need to weight paint the shield manually, since automatic weight paint turned the shield into something else (this may cause kenshi to crash, it happened to me before). The setting for the shield after that isn't important, just make sure it fit the armour maximum size. Also I cannot fix the bug where you "buy a shield, twice the game crashes", since I need to access the full game data to do that, yep it will be a big bug to live with haha

OK, found by myself.
In this particular case, you have to also copy the .material file created...
Must be the only case i've seen where it was mandatory.

I love the idea of it but the roman scutum just doesn't fit with anything else in the game (except maybe the mercenary leather). I know samurai didn't use shields so there's no help there, but something more scrap-looking would at least blend a bit better.

I can deffinitely imagine the variety of shields. From regular shields to bucklers to greatshields.

Noice, definately going to start using this one for sure. I've always wanted shields in game.

So if I understand this correctly, it's not actively used in combat to block attacks, it's just an extra layer of armor added into the equation when calculating damage taken is that right?

more lore-friendly shields would be like scrap metal welded together and wood with chains on it or something

shields seem like something that should just be in the base game.

Dude i've been making tons of armor for kenshi and yet i don't get how yours worked on this case. so no armature yet you had the skeleton file? wtf they're related ^^

Been wishing for shields for a while to be added to the game. You done just that. But was hoping for more "lore friendly" looking shields that fit in the world of Kenshi. You did however give hope.

Does the shield have an armature on it? Whenever i try to make a parrying weapon for my mod it is crashing. I don't quite understand.

Nice work. What are the odds of you trying an off hand parrying weapon mod? Id love to have a guy wield katana and wakizashi. Or even an invisible shield so we could wield weapons onne handed. Ive been wishing for such for a while but wasnt sure it could be done.

Actually NPCs can use them but can't spawn with them equipped, so you could KO someone and make them wear it.

@Stumple I actually used the exact same settings as you did, only difference was the mesh (and no icon).
The shield model you used had armature or not ?

Yeah that is the bug I cannot fix...
One more thing: NPC cannot wear these shield, since it is an armour class attached to the weapon slot

I've found that moving the shield to the right side of the primary weapons slot can cause a crash.
Nothing gamebreaking but something to be mindful of.

It looks like you made some common mistakes there, its never was the blender problem (I ran into this problem before). Some advice: Try to set the slot for the shield to be H 2 : W 4 (since this is an armour class, anything bigger than W4 will crash the game and you will need H2 to fit in the weapon slot), Also check if you got a correct path for icon if you use them. Good Luck!!

A shield made out of shek skin would be cool.

you can't just add melee defense stat to an armor. It's attack and defense at the same time or nothing.
defense or attack bonus are available only to weapons

Coolio! Only critique I would make is that I think it might be better (in terms of both balance and realism) for shields to grant a bonus to melee defence instead of armor. That way the better a characters skill with their shield the more benefit it provides- instead of just being another layer for the enemy to beak through.
