I'm British and we have a terrible history of intervening in international affairs with pretty bad consequences.
Without DLC, the NATO forces are pretty much represented by the US in ARMA.
I'm not saying that the airstrike that hit the civs was an intentional act of agression - but look into the hit-rate of US drone-strikes. The first military strike called by the current US administration killed an 8 year old American girl.
This is a story told from the viewpoint of soldiers who find themselves on the wrong side of a unilateral 'peace-keeping' action by a world super-power. The people who have siezed control have ties to that super-power - they will be portrayed as insurgents, terrorists, the bad-guys... It's never that simple.
