Just an FYI for anyone following this topic:

While it is not exactly the same, the Vanilla Achievements Expanded mod does something similar, and then some. And that mod works for both v1.2 and v1.3.

Unfortunately, I don't have time to adapt the mod to 1.1. And also it really needs some bugfixes.
However, it is Open Source, so I can accept code contributions and release updates.

I assume this mod caused me to crash with 'Death Rattle' mod installed as it changes the death mechanic in game thus causing issues with the "kill x people" challenges. Might want to look into solving this issue or at the very least mention the issue. Good potential in this mod otherwise I hope it will still be worked on.

@under-A I am not trying to be a free-loader, but I really know nothing about codings.Sorry, by the way may we at least have the challenge display as somewhere else other than the alert? Most of us has a lot of alert from mods that will covered up info already.

Essentially, I feel like the challenges should be things that most of us won’t do in our playthrough, rather than something that we do all the time with obscene numbers. That’s just farming the game like farming levels in online game. Adding time limitation options will also makes each challenges become really different. An early game kill a faction leaders challenge can be really different from late game one. One might required you to send out suicide head hunter assasin. Another might only required you to spam the command console to ask for a faction to send caravan and hold for the leader to come along.

These are mostly vanilla friendly. I can’t think of many challenges that will work well with other mods that adds contents. Maybe some genius can come up with better idea.

17. Travel over X tiles away from home tile, without drop pods return to home tile alive.
18. Acquire X amount of Y items, should be drop down menu to pick and work with modded items. Ex: Acquire 10 AI Core.
19. Luciferium related challenge (can’t think of a good one atm)
20. Cure X amount of addiction pawns
21. Collect each races in your colony.
22. Hold more than X amount of prisoners at once.
23. Feed more than X amount of chickens at once.

These are a few challenges I can think of atm

1. Add Time Limitation choice for each challenge
2. Destroy a faction base
3. Kill a faction leaders
4. Defeat(Wipe Out) all pirates
5. Defeat (Wipe Out) a faction
6. Defeat (Wipe Out) all factions
7. Recruit(but don’t have to kept) X amount of people
8. Butcher X amount of human
9. Harvest X amount of organs
10. Research Everything
11. Build 2 ship, and defend it.
12. Earn over X silver
13. Tame a Thrumbo
14. Kept an infestation active for X year (not killing all the bugs)
15. Own X amount of pyromanic pawns. (Or any traits desired)
16. Fly The Spaceship off without researching Power armor research (Or anything you feel like, i don’t know, maybe, a drop down menu will be nice here, working with mods too)

After trying this,I feel like most of these challenges can be done in a long live colony imo. Especially the killing one. The mining one is also easy for me, since I really likes to mine out the mountains. I was expecting something more unique such as. Acquired special quest items or do caravan trading, destroy faction base, etc. I am a guy who turtles a lot inside my tile, so I was expecting challenges that can force me to change my playstyle, so I don't start another colony and do basicly same things. I also feel like we should have a toggle choice for setting time limitation for the challenge. For example, if I be able to set a challenge of killing 100 people in 2 years, I am probably forced to go destroy some faction base or do some world quest, instead of turtle in my base for 5 years until I am all geared up and just wait for the 20+ raiders to run into my kill box. I will come back with a list of challenges I can think of later today.

I kept crashing part way through a raid at a random time, wasn't on a kill, down, gunshot, or anything else specific that I could tell, but would only be during raids.
I removed Challenge Accepted and it stop the crashes.
Challenge was Kill 25 People.

I am encountering the same problem as twitch.tv/SmileyJ except with the kill 25 poeple. I tried it with out any mods and I still get a crash.

In the end it's up to you what you do, but I either have a colony that doesn't survive long enough to do anything or magically survives till the mid game where I end up wanting to install a save-incompatable mod or expirement with new custom scenerios I've made and start all over anyway. However, I still end up spending enough time in a single colony that it would be a lot more convient and pleasurable to be able to do them all. Something you could do, is set it up as a configurable option in the mod settings. So players that like lots of restarts can have a playstyle like that, and players who prefer to spend years in one colony can still find this mod more interesting as well.
That's what I'd do if I were you. But I'm not you, so that fact doesn't actually matter.

It's an interesting question. Because, being late in the game makes many challenges much-much easier to complete. Thus, you'll just build single base, and will complete them all with single game run. This was the original design of this mod and I changed it into current state, to give players motivation to start next game from the scratch. Users reported in the past that challenges are not as challenging and not form strong motivation.

It's not that I refuse to accept your feedback, it is very valuable. I'm just trying to figure out how to keep challenge as motivation factor...

I meant to say killed 25 people BTW. And once you start to get later in the game, when raids are massive, killing 100 people could be considered easy.

For somereason I missed that blatantly obvious fact that there were tiers. -_-

I like this mod a lot, but I ended up being somewhat disappointed in a way due to how it functions. I thought I'd be able to have all the challenges with one collony, but simply doing one doesn't seem nearly as exiting. My reaction when I completed the challenge I selected was literally: "Oh. That's it? I can't get another?"

I feel like it should be set up so that every time you complete a challenge you can now choose the next tier or a different challenge. This really helps keep the excitment up, in my opinion. You don't need to start an all new colony just to complete a different challange.

To only complete one per colony just seems to dull, and to need to start from stratch to do another seems like poor design, espcially since you probably have killed 10 people before you are anywhere near the late game. Escpially if you play with mods that add more to the game.

There are some tiered challenges, like "Reach 10/25/50 colonists" or "Have zoo of certain size"

I think a good idea is to have tiered challenges;kill 100 animals, kill 250 animals, kill 500 animals, kill 1k aimals. Like that. It's plenty possible this already exsists and I just haven't noticed/gotten to that stage, but I feel like it is a good idea. Kinda reminds me of Borderlands 2.

I've got an odd bug whereI get a person (or group of people) with a challenge to offer with every single event that occurs. Every. Single. One.

Cargo pods? Challenge giver. Raid? Challenge giver. Plague? Challenge giver. Manhunter pack? Challenge giver.

And it locks up my game for a few seconds every time, as well, and the length of time depends on the event. I've gotten to where I can tell if it'll be something good or bad depending on how the freeze 'feels'.

It is random goods, proportional to challenge difficulty. It will be sent to you via transport pods after completing the challenge.

Some of challenges are planned to have time limits, but not the trivial things. I plan to implement challenges like "Survive N seasons on ice sheet", that will have time limits.

On my end I’ve been experiencing a problem with downloading this mod where I get a “disk write error”. To fix this I had to go into the workshop_log.txt and find the error. I received


Update canceled: Failed updating depot 294100 while creating symlink (disk write failure) “(long directory path in Mac)/workshop/downloads/294100/1382592596/about”

1382592596 Is this pages number and I found and unsubscribed from the mod and the downloading started working again. There seems to be something wrong with your mod and I would absolutely love to use it in my games! I hope this helps you and anyone else who try’s this mod out!

Currently, the challenges are statically predefined, some of them required to complete before further challenges will be pickable. But I got your idea about more randomized challenges. Will think of it.

Word. Thanks a lot, @under-A. Makes me think of the B@d@$$ points in Borderlands 2 (Kill 40 Bullymongs, for example), or other types of built-in game achievements. Once you make more progress with this, a discussion post with all the challenges (and their rewards) listed out would be cool to see, just to know what we're in for. I think it would be important for people to be able to judge whether the rewards are balanced for their games.

@yes_commander, you're not off the track. Unlike RimQuest, this mod introduces completely new kind of challenges, not standard game world quests. The simplest example is "Reach 10 colonists" challenge.

Is it... like RimQuest without a quest giver (I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing)? Or does it modify the game on the spot? I'm imagining lists of things like, "Survive the next season without using any units of medicine of any tier," or "Trigger brutal raider invasion instantly," or "Construction materials restricted to bamboo for duration of Aprimay." Am I way off track? I'm just very curious.
