Found the problem.
For the future, for those who encounter the same problem.
Select "Use Base Game Ability Hud" in the in-game Options - Abilities. This should be done when you are in Strategy, not Tactics

I want abilities to be displayed in several lines in tactics.
Installed the [WOTC] Unlimited Ability Icons mod - it doesn't work
It also doesn't work without the mod.

In both cases, an arrow appears to the right of the only line for scrolling through abilities.
I use LWOTC

I was wondering why I have the darnedest times navigating the icons on a game pad. Makes a preacher want to cuss! Now "I know the rest of the story" (a take from Paul Harvey).

doesn’t work and yes I read quick fix update of your letter. I do have alien hunters community fox mod and I can’t find Hud ability things to chang you didn’t give me full detections to find it I do want all ability on this mode but it doesn’t seem to work can anyone help me find it I’ll be appreciate it.

Just finished a campaign with about 685 mods, this one included, and had no major issues! Thanks for putting this up.

Anyone know if this mod will cause issues with [WOTC] Fix Controller Grappling? AML says there's a conflict. I looked through the mod files and see that both of these mods edit UITacticalHUD_AbilityContainer inside the XcomEngine.ini file. I know some conflicts can be ignored but I'm not sure if this is one of those cases.

Steam will display when a mod was last updated on the top right of its mod page. In this case it's not changed in 4 years. Have a look at this if you haven't already seen it:

Apparently your mod used to provide the option of customising the order of the ability icons? Any chance you could restore this feature? I'm tired of forgetting that my specialists should be using Skullmining every mission as it is on "page 2" of their abilities

Okay, so it seems to not be working for me. Is there something I need to reset or what? I don't have any other mods that overwrite the AbilityContainer.

The (Options - Abilities - Use Base Game Ability Bar) isn't available in regular WOTC is there another way to get that button other than through LWOTC?

Ignore - i was reloading an old save each time which reverted the setting. Didnt realize those were save-specific. Seems to work now!

I can check the setting (Options - Abilities - Use Base Game Ability Bar) but it reverts everytime i restart the game so doesn't take effect. Could another mod be resetting it?

Working with lwotc, all you got do is go to Options - Abilities - Use Base Game Ability Bar (something like this). I needed to restart for the change to take effect.

This works for me thankfully, had a bit too many abilities from all the specializations in RPGO for some of my self made Hero-like characters. I'm surprised this isn't subscribed too more. Thank you.

That scrolling feature idea would be cool but it works fine as is so far.

I uh... I actually need that many icons. I did some experimenting in RPGO.

As note for everybody, this MOD works ok for LWotC loaded almost at the end.

Just wanted to say thanks to Larsen, that was easy and clean for LWotC. For the ppl that dont want to scroll to see what is all about, edit file XComLW_PerkPack.ini and change 14 with 30. However wanted to mention that by doing this all interactive icons are a bit under the bar with soldiers skill buttons.

I'm playing this mod with lwotc. I ticked the 'use base game...". Still the mod doesn't seem to work. 30 icons would be enough for me, it's just that I wish them on only one row but the lwotc mod doen's let more than 15 in one row. Any suggestions?

Don't really understand but here's some great Mod Troubleshooting advice.
That recommends the excellent Alternate Mod Launcher [github.com], which everyone who uses mods should be using.
This guide gives some more detailed advice on using the Alternate Mod Launcher: Troubleshooting: Mods not working properly / at all
If you've just switched from the Firaxis Launcher, or are forced to use it, read the "Mods not activating/deactivating properly in WOTC" section of Mod not working? Mods still have their effects after you disable them?
If you're using the Community Highlander then read its specific troubleshooting advice [github.com].

Hey, i've tried downloading the mod twice but it messes with my mod page and i have to uninstall everything, i have made sure nothing overlaps or goes in the way of this mod. Is there something that im doing wrong?
Any info would be appreciated :)

just edited the XComLW_PerkPack.ini in LWOTC config folder now i got room for 30 abilitys :)

same with the original version vs LW2, you have to go to options and turn on the option to use base game ability bar for this mod to take effect.

Dont work with current version of LWOTC, its still limits you to see 10 or 14 abiiltys. :(

I honestly think its a new mod conflicting with it but i checked and i rarely see anything that helps me in the description and the launcher doesn't detect any issues.
and i am really hoping to avoid listing of every mod i installed since then (using the workshop)

I did clean that folder out and i use the alternate launcher. I had previous mod issues that i learned to use that a few months or even years back. and other mods work porperly and everything. its just the hud stopped working. i can't say when though since my newer campaigns never reached far enough to notice the missing abilities.

So this mod did work for me for a bit but recently it stopped working. but since i restarted the campaigns a few times with different mods i don't know when exactly it happened. (or even after which mod i installed) Are there any known Incompatabilities? Because i am using a alternate launcher to check for incompatable mods and none of them seem have any issues with this one.

Definitely need the scrolling feature in my case :D Would you mind adding it? Passive ability icons and active abilities overlap eachother.

For some reason this does nothing for me. I am using with a VERY modded game. have stuff From the RPG mod (lots of it) are you aware of any common conflicts I should be looking for?

THANKYOU for this -bg- i noticeced i didn't have some abilities available so i checked the workshop for a mod to increase ability maximum and this was it.

@bg good point i have a mod that allows you to max out a level in wotc if they are a genius you can unlock litrally every ability on the tree.

this mod is only for when you have a lot of mods that adds more and more abilties, in vanilla you will never exceed 30 abilities.

how can one get so many abilities in the first place
