Since the last game update, this mod doesn't work properly for me anymore. No colour in the bar & it does not always display how many research Techs are in the queue. :-(

Great Mod, thanks!!! It would be nice if there was a number to the right of the bar indicating how many researces are queued up. aka 1-5 or, if being particularly useful, how many are waiting to be performed 0-4. One of the graphics in the Description shows this but all i see is the bar. I play in windowed mode so i can still do other things while playing.

This is really handy. At first I just thought it would be a "cute mod" that was nice but didn't really do anything. After using it for a while I noticed that sometimes the ingame "female voice" didn't always tell me when the research had ended, or I got too busy to listen. But an occasional glance at the bar will show that disturbing red colour if you don't have anyting in the que and you have paid good money for outsourcing some research in the early game. So yes... it has become quite useful to me.

Yeah it doesn't poll at all, but reacts to the NewHour, TechResearched, ResearchQueueChange, and AnomalyAnalyzed messages (plus a few other messages that should only fire once, in the loading process). Given the proponderance of other things - including built-in game functions - that react to NewMinute and do a lot of work, it's hard to see that anything acting on NewHour could have a meaningful performance impact (and if it did, it wouldn't matter whether it's 0 colonists or 10,000).

Disregard previous question. I read through your code. Seems like the only "polling" that is triggered with any regularity is newhour(). So I assume the mod polls only 24 times a solar day. If you can confirm that. Thanks.

Can you add an option to adjust polling period? That would help avoid lag with large 1000+ colonies.

Thanks - that was it! It was confusing because the mod tool by default only allowed targa. So had to remove the extension and do a new search with png.

Seems to be working fine after the patch.

@Alien - Shouldn't be anything you need to do. Did you try again after enabling in-game and restarting? I know if you turn on a mod first thing after launching the game it doesn't prompt you to restart - personally I haven't needed to but I've heard some people say that mods didn't load correctly for them until they'd restarted anyway.

Yeah there's a few of them - there seem to be people who just repost popular mods for whatever reason. Don't really see what they gain out of it, but there you go.

Added an approximation of time remaining to the tooltip, plus the exact progress in points rather than just percent.

The game estimates research points on a daily basis, so as you get close to the end of the tech, the approximation will become less accurate - for example, if your research buildings are on an inactive shift, it will be slower than the estimate.

Edit to my previous post: this seems to be some sort of incomptatability with another mod. I removed everything and enabled just this mod and then it worked. Not sure which mod is causing the conflict. Will need more testing.

I've added the option to hide the bar when there are no technologies currently in the research queue. Not one I'll be using myself, but it's there for those that requested it.
