For anyone reading this who's looking for a version of this that has been updated for the latest game version, there is Cactus Crop for a little sanity .

Keep in mind this is an example mod intended to teach modders how to create a new crop.

In current game version, food is produced in small quantities but VERY fast.
When facing starvation, good to switch to this.

I can't find any use or purpose of the "beauty" attribute it modifies for the farm building.
If anyone else knows, please post it.

The in-game models don't look like cactus and its buggy. Had to end my game because I was getting 8 food per Sol.
