Yeah, it's weird and funny to hear Nick and Ellis talk about a mall when there's an inhumanly gigantic monument of the Combine invasion overhead. To be clear, when you said "You can rip skyboxes from half life 2 using programs found on the source developer community" you gave me a sliver of hope, that there were programs now to do what I did when I made this skybox.

GCFScape doesn't rip ♥♥♥♥. It extracts files which are held in the .vpk essentially acting like winzip, or 7zip. You probably don't even know what I'm talking about though do you? Amateur.

As to the 3D and 2D components, yeah, no ♥♥♥♥. People have been modding that since HL2 first dropped, and I turned No Mercy into ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Neptune. Know your place, you tiny little peasant.

I never said to bake the models onto the texture, and I never said anything about a program you never know about. I just said you could rip the skybox textures and use those... If you really want the citadel and ♥♥♥♥, just edit it into the skybox texture or keep using the screenshots. Don't be putting words into my mouth dude.

GCFScape is not going to bake the 3D skybox models of a level to a texture that can be used by L4D2. It is used to open .vpk and extract the files within, that is all.

Not all l4d2 maps have 3D skybox components, and many that do have them use terrible lighting, like the dark carnival ferris wheel. I converted the 3D citadel into a 2D skybox, so it would look the same in all campaigns.

There aren't many modders who don't know what gcfscape is, why on earth would you think I didn't? I've got 400 mods.

Why not GCFScape?? That is what most people use to open .vpk files

Yes, that Is what I was trying to explain to you. A map typically uses two separate pieces for a skybox. The 3D area that is casted onto the 2D skybox that the player sees.

I ask because, you cannot include the 3D models of a skybox as a skybox on l4d2, you could do it in a custom map, but I don't make maps, only mods to alter the main campaigns.

For example, if I wanted to create a skybox for l4d2, which made it look like you were in No Mercy, I would have to take screenshots IN No Mercy, rather than just using the skybox materials

I do understand that, I used to glitch into the 3D part to look like a giant on a mod called zombie master. What I'm asking is, do these programs you use output the 3D parts as part of the cube? Or are they ignored?

(Side note, l4d2 skyboxes are rendered using 6 separate files, rather than the stitched together cubemaps)

The models are included in a separate part of the map away from viewable play space and are then casted infront of the 2D skybox, thats the 3D part. The 2D part is 6 separate images stitched together to form a cube that the player sees at all times.

Does that rip the models as well? Or just the skybox texture files? I had to use a program to stitch a panorama from a couple dozen high resolution screenshots to capture the citadel, and other buildings.

Regardless, the problem remains, the citadel isn't present in any night-time areas, for that matter, I don't believe any of the buildings of city 17 are, so the lighting had to be flubbed.

Yup, because they don't understand that my skybox is made from screenshots I took in-game, and that HL2 doesn't have any night-time areas with interesting buildings to capture, so I did what I could.

Instead of asking why the lighting was weird, they instead suggested that I should just make it again, differently. That's why they got my rabid dog treatment, and you, who are asking questions, have received a sane response.

Maybe a version with just Citadel is appropriate. The buildings on the skyboxes have inappropriate lighting especially at night time.
