Too buggy for that. The AI can't handle it. And if I were to update it, it would become part of the main mod.

Variants are a completely seperate system from that one. The history file governs what nations start with, so it would not alleviate the issue of them running rampant with variants. Other than having another one to start with.

I am assuming if you add variant entires by tech name in the history/countries/ faction .txt it doesnt do anything for the non-vanilla variants (like you would for vanilla variants) it just doesn't work?

Hmm. Apparently you need to fire a script to set the AI to pursue a specific goals for division templates, so maybe they do the same thing for variants? There is more in this Developer Diary, but not sure if/where to find the exact script to fire regarding variants. You will probably guess better than me because I haven't modded HOI since the the Fallout mod for HOI2/Darkest Hour.

Strangely not. It's only for equipment kinds that have no variants in vanilla. Though the ones in vanilla only make like one upgrade for each stat, sometimes two into one of them and then disregard the feature as well. Kinda underdeveloped from Paradox side.

Would have integrated it into the main mod if the AI was capable of doing anything with it. As it stands it just starts ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ out variants constantly and wasting all army experience on it.

Should be, but I do not guarantee for it to be balanced, or that the ai can handle it. They simply start making fifty variants of the same equipment only ever changing one stat.

No, that is a bug in vanilla that happens if you have two equipments providing a speed stat instead of the battalions.
