Apart from graphics, this and the power beam targeter have completely different mechanics. I'd suggest you just spawn a power beam and call the vanilla code `PowerBeam.StartStrike()` on the instance where needed.

Tornado killed my animals and set off all my morter shells then I thought of your mod.

i ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate tornados i live in a mountain still destoryed all my ♥♥♥♥ inside the mountain BUT NO DAMGE TO THE MOUNTAIN and could (if unlucky enough) cause basically a full WIPE of your colony restart from sqare one

A similar system was used in Arthur C. Clarke's Fountains of Paradise to manipulate the weather.
Those tornados are really a bother. they don't really give a dang about roofs, or walls. Can't say they bothered me much till one nearly took out all of my power generation. thanks for sharing!

@Dust The item is in Vanilla and is e x t r e m e l y hard to get. I haven't obtained one from a quest either :P

I like the idea, but in over 70 hours of play I have never seen or had the chance to obtain an orbital power beam targeter, making this impossible to build. =/

to be honest you could call it a alien artifact that the colony stumbled on and replicating it making this madness :-)

If this reusable targeter had damage abilities, I wouldn't dare use it on a tornado within 15 cells of my base.

The most important question that everybody MUST ask:

"Can this be used against raiders and manhunter squirrels?"

a bit of logic for ya. If you have a tornadoe, a large beam of high power light(such as an ION Cannon) strategically placed in the path of a tornadoe, will cause an updraft disipating it. Or making it twice as big. It's a 50/50 chance really. You could say you did it directly in the center of the eye, and that would effectively throw the tornadoe into the upper atmosphere. So idk, up to you for lore.

@Awkward winkyface, you need to keep in mind that the ability to "controll" the weather is an really powerful option. Sure that this is tech like "building an escape ship", so sure this is planned for lategame and more or less to keep balanced. And the building materials are not expensiv only the "orbital power beam targeter"

Could be useful if building and charging it didn't cost your left testicle. Currently it's only useful lategame where the tornado is still a big threat but everything else mostly trivial. The tornado is more of an issue early in the game if it strikes eg your farm.
