damn, I wish they made two types of ashigaru, these guys and then the vanilla armored. Or have visual upgrades when their armor upgrades up a tier like in m2tw. This is historically accurate. Japan doesn't have as many metals, peasants would loot a burning house looking for nails. Even in Europe where metal was abundant, it was still expensive to armor all every peasant levy.

Ashigaru actually means light foot, yes it can mean light foot, but it can also mean a soldier that isn't a Samurai.

Do you mind if I use the models in my mod that I might upload? I only use them for Ikko Ikki ashigaru. Also just to let you know this doesn't work for the Ikko Ikki because the model files are named incorrectly. Also whoever is saying ashigaru means peasant is wrong. Ashigaru means light feet. Funny thing is ashigaru were actually medium infantry by 1545.

Could you do this exact same mod with no changes to the outfits for FOTs, but obviously this time for levy

This mod would be a great idea if it didn't replace the vanilla ashigaru. The ashigaru were of peasent stock, but they were trained soldiers. The difference between them and samurai is more or less like the one between modern regular army units and special forces; what you have here is more like a ragtag militia (then again modern nations tend to give uniforms to their official militia forces, even if only to comply with the Geneva treaties).
In Rome terms, ashigaru would be velites and hastati, and you decided to replace them all with only levies and peasents/town watches.

For realism's sake please nerf these units a bit and make them different from the ashigaru.

Nathaniak: Ashigaru doesn't mean "peasant", it means "lightfeet". The term designed part-time soldiers who weren't part of the samurai class (until the end of the Sengoku period, their status changed during the 16th century.)
So your honor is safe, don't commit seppuku.

Can you make these units not replace the armoured Ashigaru? And possibly put in with Vastitator units mod so they all look unique? That would be cool! :D

This actually reminds me of one of the social consequences of the sword hunts...

Did you really think Hideyoshi's sword hunts targeted his own soldiers? No, in fact, one of the direct histroical results of the sword hunt was that the armed peasents of the current time simply stopped... Being Peasents, but never became something quite like samurai (Albiet, many were recognized as low ranking samurai, their purpose became more like a solider.)

Specifically, any veteran who tried to tried to break free from military service was expected to be expelled from village life, in an attempt to keep arms out of the common people.

Perhaps, the old Ashigaru models could be restored as unit types that get unlocked when the art "Sword Hunt" is mastered, to repreent the group of inbetween ashigaru and samurai that the sword hunts created (Perhaps make them dependent on having barracks, to give that building type an actual use.)

Henry Buysy, that is a result of Radious's Total War mods, go back to his mods and he tells you how to fix that. If it's not in one, keep loooking.

perhaps make this the skin for garrison archers ect rather than regular ashigaru if thats possible, to show the hurried responce to the attacking army by the locals

i like it, but it shouldnt replace the ashigaru, it should be cheap cannon fodder infantry that has lesser skill and stats than the ashigaru. historically, ashigaru, while levied from peasants, were drilled and trained. while not to the extent of samurai, they had decent fighting experience, more so than common peasant

This is a great idea, but I think it should not replace the ashigaru. Give them a different name like peasant militia. Keep the original ashigaru and make them two different types of units.

That sounds likely to be the issue. If those mods modify the same files, then they could overrride this mod's changes. Does it work if you temporarily disable any other mods?
