I recommend changing names for textures and .vmt files. You can change texture name inside .vmt using VTFedit.

You can copy orginal textures into a different folder inside "materials/models". To access them you will need Sub-Material Tool.

Goddamit, on my Mac it does not work either. I have no idea how to resolve this issue.
You can try unpacking the addon and puting all the contents into "materials" folder.
