Yes you can, but it is not gauranteed to work perfectly.
Also fighter factories will only spawn on new sectors if you use old saves.

Rightclick > properties on the game and you use see beta program somewhere in those tabs.

You have to be on the Beta Branch by the way. Stable branch might need to wait a few more weeks.
