SAVE screen!
It works from the SAVE screen.
Not the _load_ screen.

Just an FYI for anyone who was having as much trouble with this as *my friend* was.
Also requires mouse, not controller.

It should unbind itself on use, letting you disable it without a warning. Is it not doing that for you?

Note that the button is only in the save window.
And if you want it to be displayed in the mission, you need to change the parameter in the config.

the button only show on avenger mode, not in combat mission.

Such a small thing but I was so annoyed that I kept seeing the generic Reaper at the loading screen instead of my soldiers. This fixed it instantly, very smooth!

Can confirm this works as well for uninstalled DLC. Uninstalled Alien Hunters mid-playthrough and found that fresh saves don't "remember" that you uninstalled DLC (like most other games) and got the missing content warning on every load (an intolerable annoyance). So far so good, haven't noticed any problems while continuing my campaign. Many thanks to the author.
