GWR Coaches: Toplight, Collett, etc

描述
GWR Coaches: Toplight, Collett, etc. Available: 1902-1966

One of the most popular coach designs of the Great Western Railway was the 'Toplight', so-called for the small opaque windows above the main windows. Typically 57 feet (17m) long, initially built with wood paneling in 1907 and metal being used from 1912. Most were a compartment construction with a side corridor and enclosed gangway connections between carriages. Most had two water closets for the public convenience, should passengers need to spend a penny. The brake version has half of the space used for luggage, light parcels and the guard's compartment with the hand brake (to hold the train when the engine was uncoupled).

GWR Toplight Coach: Carries 16, 80mph (129kph)
GWR Toplight Coach Brake (Fr): Carries 8, 80mph (129kph)
GWR Toplight Coach Brake (Re): Carries 8, 80mph (129kph)
Available: 1902-1948

When Charles Collett became Chief Mechanical Engineer of the GWR, amongst his new designs were bow-ended carriages to succeed the Toplights. The bow-ended design shortened the gang-way connections between coaches, that had previously frightened some passengers. Fast and numerous production of these coaches in the 1920s meant they comprised the large majority of mainline stock by the 1930s. Many of Collett's bow-ended coaches were still in use when nationalisation came in 1948 and weren't phased out until the 60s. In 1949 BR's new crimson and cream livery was applied when these coaches were repainted. The brake version has half of the space used for luggage, light parcels and the guard's compartment with the hand brake (to hold the train when the engine was uncoupled).

GWR Collett Bow-ended Coach: Carries 18, 95mph (153kph)
GWR Collett Bow-ended Coach Brake (Fr): Carries 9, 95mph (153kph)
GWR Collett Bow-ended Coach Brake (Re): Carries 9, 95mph (153kph)
Available: 1923-1948

GWR Collett Bow-ended Coach BR: Carries 18, 100mph (161kph)
GWR Collett Bow-ended Coach Brake BR (Fr): Carries 9, 100mph (161kph)
GWR Collett Bow-ended Coach Brake BR (Re): Carries 9, 100mph (161kph)
Available: 1948-1966

Non-corridor coaches were mainly used on suburban and local services. The absence of a corridor for moving between coaches and toilets, allowed space for more passengers. Typically these were arranged in a 4 coach set (with 2 brake coaches) or as a set of 2 brake coaches.

GWR Collett Suburban Non-Corridor Coach : Carries 22, 60mph (96kph)
GWR Collett Suburban Non-Corridor Coach Brake (Fr): Carries 11, 60mph (96kph)
GWR Collett Suburban Non-Corridor Coach Brake (Re): Carries 11, 60mph (96kph)
Available: 1927-1948 (GWR) / 1948-1966 (BR)

It is recommended to use the Brake (Re) version as the last carriage, because of how the gangway connections have been modelled to appear joined.

GWR coaches support custom colours and all have passenger characters. No animation, aging or user logo.

Fictional generic coaches in LMS and SR livery (uses GWR Collett coach body). These are not intended to be historically accurate and are provided as a stand-in until someone mods some proper LMS and SR coaches. Not recolourable, no brake versions, no placeable asset versions.

Hi JK, would I be able to get permission to do a livery variation on your LMS 1937 coach as to add the stripes from the streamliners?

Hi , Are you able to update the non corridor front brake BR Version so it does not appear with a white roof on the LHS of the screen when it is fairly small , as per the attached .

As it moves to centre screen it will correct.

Thanks

The new coaches and locos look great . Can I ask whether it is intentional to have the weight of the non-corridor coaches and the brake coach the same as before you have reduced the weight of the brake coach .

I've now updated this with 4 generic coaches in LMS and SR livery (reskinned Collett coaches). Which should be more suitable for those currently having to use the GWR coaches as stand-ins.

I've now updated this with the Collett coaches (GWR & BR versions, including assets). There's also the new Castle class added into to the existing 4000 Star mod. I won't be doing any more new mods or major updates for a while (will probably start again in the autumn/winter).
