Moon Lord (Terraria) [Ragdoll]

"Impending doom approaches..."


Moon Lord, the ultimate showdown, punctuating the apocalyptic finale of Terraria. His twisted alien visage strikes fear into the hearts of even the most hardened adventurer. His piercing eyes shoot luminescent bolts of energy, striking through the defenses of his adversaries. He brings with him absolute domination, and leaves absolute destruction in his wake.

Well, after a long hiatus for various reasons(health, busy, etc), I've returned with another boss. Instead of sticking to my usual pattern of doing the bosses in order, I decided to skip to Moon Lord. I did this mostly because you guys have been so patient with my abscence, and Moon Lord has been heavily requested ever since the beginning. Originally, I shyed away from making Moon Lord because I was assured that one would arrive to the GMod workshop from somewhere(or someone) else. Out of respect, I abstained from making my own. However, it never came, even after years of waiting.

From a technical standpoint, he's about 5 bosses rolled into one. He took roughly 4 months of work to pull together. I was slowed significantly by real world issues during this time as well. Still, when all is said and done, he turned out decent, at least visually. I'm beginning to question my abilities here, and if I'm actually all that capable of tackling these kinds of projects. There is always some significant issue that holds these submissions back. I'm thinking about looking into formal education on 3D content creation, rather than just spitballing it like I normally do.

This might be the last Terraria-themed thing I do for a while, I'm going to go back to the drawing board. I don't think I'm skilled enough to tackle what might come next. Expect something different from me next time.

-His body is a bit floaty, which I originally saw as a bug. After posing him a bit, it's quite handy that he's lighter weight.

-Minor issues with his wrists and shoulders. I don't have a bulletproof method when it comes to rigging arms and legs. Expect minor jankiness.

-Finger poser is reversed and limited. This is weird, as I used the same rig I always use when creating fingers. As to why you can only pose the fingers so far, that I have no answer for.

-His facial flexes are busted. I've suspected for some time now that facial flexing in GMod is limited once your model reaches a certain size. Ice Queen had similar issues, but nothing quite a broken as Moon Lord.

-You can turn off his chest cover, his left hand eye, and his right hand eye using the bodygroups.

-Sadly, you can't hide the eye in his forehead, as that uses facial flexing.

-His second skin turns his eye glow off.

-The tongue is a separate mesh, and functions more like a rope. Pose the beginning and end, then tweak the spin on the tongue to get wild coiling effects.
