The Formula BMW was a basic motorsport category for single-seat cars. Like the old Formula Ford, the intention was to function as the first experience of the young driver of kart racing in car racing. It had runs lasting 25 minutes converted into laps.

It was created by BMW Motorsport in 2001. There are championships in Europe, Asia and America. The best driver has the promise of being tested for Formula 1.

From 2011, BMW stopped supporting the Pacific and Europe series, in favor of the Formula BMW Talent Cup. The Talent Cup, which was the final championship of Formula BMW, ended after the 2013 season.
