you can adjust the map orientation in worldbuilder if you go to camera scenario, i think its in the scenario tab at the top, and change the 'angle' setting. . .0 sets it square on, 90 a quarter turn obviously, 45 for a diamond . . .the obvious...

Since the game does not allow a camera rotation. You always see the east. Not to the north on the map. I have seen the map is diamond shaped. You can adjust the camera to the north (opponent opposite). I do not know if that is possible.
