Acid Etching is popular metal finish which gives this unique brutal look to a weapon. I personally used acid etching for some of my knives so i know exactly what is the actual process and how to achieve best results. I tried to imitate the finish for CSGO weapons because i am sure there are fans of realistic finishes who would love it as much as I do. Each weapon has a brief description of how the finish was achieved.

The collection includes 6 different styles.

• 100% randomized drop
  
• Not etched parts shine in light
  
• Rare drop includes skull

The pattern is seamless and was made in Illustrator. Then it was textured and rendered via Substance Painter. I used Patina as in game finish because acid etching is in fact a patina.


I was told that i took the idea of acid etching from a reputable artist who publish related skins in the workshop. First skin with the pattern I uploaded in August 2016 and it was the butterfly knife. I add the knife to this collection so you could see for yourself. The referred author uploaded his first work in March 2017, so I did not take his idea. In addition, please note that the acid etched pattern in this collection is different from the one created for butterfly knife. I changed the pattern because i wanted to it to look more like something i personally etched on few of my edc knives.

This concern has been resolved. The artist said that there is no infringement :)

Collection now includes acid etched skins which were subsequently Ti coated and anodized. Anodizing was sealed and Ti coating is as durable as metal, so wearing off can occur only under really harsh conditions. I think this idea was very well implemented into skins by using patina finish and tweaking its settings.

Yes, I will make few custom acid etched designs for some weapons and use the gunsmith style with a unique pattern. In fact i was already working on Glock skin and my video card burned from rendering in substance painter so I am not sure how soon i will release it because built-in intel video adapter cannot handle textures in substance painter higher than 1024... :)

Falks on youtube and reddit keep saying that it's better to make an alternative version with something different in place of the skull... Apparently because of the concerns with China. I made two styles with Star instead of skull, and will upload few skins with it for reference.


Thanks everyone who asked, but normal map doesn't work with randomized drop. Currently, normal map is fixed to certain position and does not change with UV. I might make some custom acid etched skins tho :)



Collection is updated with new texture! I used new tools and tried to add more details to the v1 pattern. Also skull was changed to lucky clover :)


No stock images used! Acid etched pattern as well as skull and clover were created from scratch in adobe illustrator. Just wanted to mention that after reading on the Reddit scary stories about workshopers using stock images and then being banned...
