The land as we know it

It’s unknown how the world has come to be this way. Our history is lost, it’s only remnants exist in giant obelisks, rising high into the air, as well as deep beneath the earth, in vast, deadly caverns. What we do know is that this land is death. Lurking in the forests, the sky, the mountains, deadly beasts from times long lost threaten us at every turn. Their snapping jaws, ripping claws, and frightening maws take all but the best of us.

We have made breakthroughs though. We’ve learned how to manipulate the obelisks of our ancestors to travel to distant lands. So far, the only lands we’ve been able to decipher are Destalious, and Puratia. Both are harsh, brutal worlds, but slowly we gain a foothold upon the world. But with every step towards this brave new world, we are reminded of our mortality. When we opened the world to Destalious, they came.

On wings of thunder, sweeping flame and deadly poison, the dragons ravage our people. What’s more, they know. They know our ways, our languages, they know our customs and yet they show us no mercy. Instead, they turned our great machines against us, some of them traveling to Puratia to torment the land there.

When the smoke cleared, there was nothing left. Our cities burned away to ash, our people gassed. Now it is time to rebuild, to retake these forsaken lands and make them our own. We will not be bound by these monsters, we will overcome them. But first, we must overcome ourselves.
