Ancient Tower Defence [TP]

OVERVIEW:

This is my modification of the classic Ancient Tower Defence scenario. Primarily, I have cleaned up all the triggers, reduced lag, added a Single Player mode, and allowed the game to progress further.

I have added new ideas called investment bank, gems, nukes, magic spells, king counters and builder bonuses. As well, I have modified the classes like Warlord, Wizard, Alchemist, Engineer, and Gambler. There is also a new shop area to buy units.
There are more detailed explanations on the more advanced features in the HINTS, and TIPS section inside the game. If you are new, I recommend you take a while to read this as there are a lot of new features to master.

I am aware there are a few other edits of my version. Whilst I have no problem with people using this as a platform to make their own changes, I do hope that you give it a different name when you do so and not to use my version number to disguise your changes as if they were mine. The latest version from me is v29.7. Hope you enjoy it. Please leave some feedback.




HOSTING A GAME:

I've kept this scenario on the original data set. However it is recommended you host this under the expansions data set. There is one level that utilises the "monkey boy" unit which wont be auto targeted by towers, and you also wont get some of the unique research technologies, if you host the game under the original data set.

To host a game, ensure all players slots are filled with Humans or AI (Player 8 MUST be AI), no teams are set and difficulty is standard. After the game begins, you can boot the AI players using the booter outposts (near monasteries and life towers).

There is a game options area (near life towers) with outposts belonging to the host player 1 (blue). Click on each outpost for a description. Simply delete an outpost to choose that option.

You can play in single player mode - just delete the appropriate outpost in the options area.

At the start of the game, choose a difficulty level and choose the number of kings to start with - again, by deleting the appropriate outposts. If the host does nothing, the default difficulty will be "easy" and players will start with 21 Kings.




GAME BASICS:

There are 7 total players (rivals) and the computer (enemy player 8). Each player has their own area (shallows) to defend.

The enemy units (computer) will travel over your shallows in an attempt to reach the other side. You must quickly build towers to stop them. Later on you can recruit units and heroes, and use magic to support your defence.

If they reach the other side you lose life from your health meter (life tower). If your life tower loses all its hit points (HP) then you lose. Every time you leak (let one unit get to the other side) you lose 1000 HP from your life tower which starts with 15000 HP.

It is mainly a FFA (Free-for-all) game. You must survive the longest out of the all the players to win. You can also play this game as a challenge to see how far you can get!

As time goes on, the levels will get harder and harder. Faster, more health, and more armour on the enemy units. You need to balance between upgrading your economy and upgrading your tower attack.

At the start, you also have a choice of Character Class (see below)

There are a total of 12 levels in this tower defence. The units will not stop coming until you die.

+2,500 food every 10 mins
+1 Castle (same as shop)
+1 King every 10 mins
+33 attack every 10 mins [Bombard +99]
+4 heroes [Robin, Charles, Subotai, Heavy Scorpion] (start with 100 attack each)
+5,000 gold

~~~ MERCHANT ~~~
+2,500 wood
+2,500 wood every 10 mins
+20 pop (same as shop)
+3 carts + 3 cogs
+2 carts every 10 min (until max)
+2 cogs every 10 min (until max)
+4 Gems every 10 mins after both trade systems are maxed
+500 gold

~~~ ENGINEER ~~~
+2,500 stone
+2,500 stone every 10 mins
+2 free rows of tower space (same as shop)
+500 HP to Life Tower
+500 HP to Life Tower every 10 mins
+5,000 HP heal to Life Tower every 10 mins
+2 builders +1 repairer (only 1 allowed)
+50 gold

~~~ WIZARD ~~~
+2,500 wood/food/stone every 10 mins
+Fireball spell every 25 seconds (Huge damage near the centre, tiny damage further away)
+0 gold

~~~ GAMBLER ~~~
-33% HP to Life Tower (permanent weakness) (usually -5,000 HP)
500 damage to Life Tower every 10 mins (repairable damage)
You take 50% more damage from leaks.
No safety panic.
No investment.
Every 10 mins you gamble 2500 gold and have 50% to win 10 gems
+50,000 Gold





EXTRA CIV BONUSES/MALUSES:

POPULAR CiVS:

KOREAN: +1 range every 10 mins to towers only.
CELTS: -5000 HP life tower
BYZANTINE: +5000 HP life tower
AZTEC: bonus monastery filled with 10 relics
SPANISH: 3 carts + 2500 gold
CHINESE 4 villagers. Research Rocketry: Scorpion +5 range, (+1 range +100 attack)/10min. ChuKoNu 50% cost.

OTHER CIVS:

HUNS: <NONE>
SARACEN: 500 gold/wood/food/stone
TURKS: 2 miners
FRANKS: Research Bearded Axe: Martels cost 50% less and timer reduced by 25s
BRITON: 1 accursed tower + free castle age. Research Yeoman: Robins -50% cost and timer, (+1 range +100 attack)/10min




NEW FEATURES:

New trade mechanic. When a player reaches their trade limit (50 carts / 40 cogs), all of that trade system will be removed and instead the player will receive 150 gold every 5 seconds as a replacement. There are two separate tributes loops, one for carts and another for cogs. This greatly improves the performance of the game!

Building bonuses to encourage skilful building of towers!

King counter to show you how many kings you have spawned and to see how many kings others have spawned!

Larger store area to allow easier movement of kings!

Store flags to remind you what you have bought and to see what others have bought!

2nd store area for units and heroes to recruit to support your defence!

Magic spells and Nukes to help your tactics!

New gem shop and investment bank!

It shouldn't do that at all, unless you are playing a version that someone else has edited. Download the version uploaded here in the workshop.

Very fun TD game but after a while, the units stop working and the end just gets clumped up

@SweatyBalls I found my mistake - for some reason a peace treaty was enabled in my settings :D it works fine now! Thanks for the entertaining scenario!

@SweatyBalls Hey! It looks very interesting, but my towers won't attack P8
I'm playing Singleplayer and chose that mode in the settings (deleting the outpost for it)

The game continues to switch me to allied with him, nothing seems to work...
I'd really appreciate your help :(

Yeah, range limit is a game engine limitation as far as I know, just like attack cannot go above 32k. Different units might have slightly different max range. Perhaps with some kind of engine mod, this can be changed. But that's too many dependencies. This scenario was designed to be as universal as possible.

Is there a range limit? I noticed towers stop at +13 range.

Well thats why I kept the game compatible with the original data set, so everyone can play it. However there are some minor differences... such as non auto targetting monkeys, as well as the unique castle tech for each civ.
