Boeing MH-47G Chinook

The MH-47G is a heavily modified CH-47 built for use in special operations. It is a pretty cool helicopter with lots of advanced technology. Since I had already built a CH-47, I thought it would be a fairly easy job to modify into the MH-47. Yet it still took me many hours to achieve finish it. Building large realistic helicopters can be very difficult and I can't help being perfectionist.

I tried to make this into a very fast and manuevrable helicopter as opposed to my CH-47, which is optimized for heavy lifting. But it didn't work out as expected. The rotor simply couldn't handle the extra stress from the higher speed and harder manuevers. So I ended up settling with a design that is almost identical to my CH-47. I did, however, add cyclic controls to the pitch compared to only differential collective, so it is more sensitive than the CH-47.

This is a very realistic helicopter. It is swashplate controlled. The rotor blades have flapping hinges to counter the effect of dissymmetry of lift and to relieve the blades of stress. It flies straight and true and can do some impressive maneuvers. Check out of the video.

Update 2.0: New swashplate design has reduced block count and reduced altitude loss with yaw and roll. Added a sling hook. Added grey windows instead of yellow.


Controls:

Engine start: 1

Collective: I,K (Makes the helicopter go up and down)

Pitch/Roll: Arrow keys (Pitch makes the nose go up and down, roll makes the helicopter move from side to side)

Yaw: J,L (Turns the helicopter)
