While being pursued by Green Arrow and Speedy, Spider Slade ran into a newly built Insect Zoo. There, he used army ants to distract the two heroes while he and his thugs made their escape. After that, he decided to start using insects as weapons, and he took over the Insect Zoo. He robbed a bank using stinging bees instead of guns, and managed to escape Green Arrow and Speedy again by using fireflies to distract them.

The heroes realised that he was hiding at the Insect Zoo. He attempted to trap them in a giant spider’s web and kill them with a poisonous spider. However, Green Arrow and Speedy managed to escape using a knife arrow and an flame arrow. When Slade attempted to get away, Green Arrow shot at a glass case containing a hornets’ nest. The case broke open, and the angry hornets attacked Slade and his thugs. Spider Slade was arrested soon after.
