Rotating Compass

描述

What this mod does

It adds a little rotating compass to the UI. The arrow points to the direction the player is facing, while the compass body rotates to match the cardinal coordinates.

It also adds the compass to the map screen (configurable) so you can always give directions to people who ask "where is X thing?".

Notes

This is a client only mod, meaning it'll work in any server, even vanilla.

Configuration options

Follow target: Sets if the compass needle should follow the screen orientation (always point up) or the player (rotate along it).
Compass wobble: Sets if the compass should "wobble" and how much when you rotate the camera. Kind of hard to explain, play around with the setting.
Needle wobble: Sets if the compass needle should "wobble" and how much when the player walks around.
Show screens: Sets if the compass should show in the game screen only, the map screen only or both.
Horizontal alignment: Sets the horizontal anchor point to take as a reference when positioning the compass ( see pictures)
Vertical alignment: Sets the vertical anchor point to take as a reference when positioning the compass ( see pictures)
Horizontal margin: Sets the spacing between the horizontal anchor point and the compass (see pictures).
Vertical margin: Sets the spacing between the vertical anchor point and the compass (see pictures).

Current issues

None so far. If you find any please report it here.

Planned features

Add skins to the compass and the pointing needle. Sadly, I'm not skilled enough to draw them, so if you're an artist and would like to contribute, feel free to hit me up.

very nice.

Right Top, and both margin are 30.

You get a compass that fits snugly against the edge of the window in the top right corner.

Thanks Aphexamine - this was very useful. Margins that I found worked best for displaying the compass in the top right corner near the statuses:

Horizontal: 250
Vetical: 50

Also, modinfo.lua points to the wrong forum link, so players can't open the mod page through the in-game button. At line 15, change:

forumthread = "25059-Download-Sample-Mods"

to

forumthread = ""

This will make it automatically point to the workshop page. Otherwise, you can also provide a relevant forum link instead.

Improved guide to configure the mod:

Increasing the value for Horizontal Margin moves the icon to the left while decreasing it moves it to the right.
Increasing the value for Vertical Margin moves the icon down while decreasing it moves it up.

To set the compass in the top right hand corner with all the other status icons.
Horizontal Alignment: Right
Vertical Alignment: Top
Horizontal Margin: 350 (I have it set centre-right, if you would like it to be with the status icons set this to about 150-200)
Vertical Margin: 50

I had to log in and out of the game about 20-30 times to work this out, hopefully someone else reads this and I save you the time.
