Ilha das Pérolas

With Ilha das Pérolas, or Pearl Island, I wanted to create somewhat of a scenario where a location that was once a great spot for a city during the colonial era now has to come up against all the problems of the modern city. Just what this game is about eh?

The area is inspired by Brazil, the central island would have once been a prime location for a colony with an easily defendable location, fresh water supply, farmlands up on the plateu and a deep outer harbour where you can park your navy. This would have given Ilha das Pérolas an important status that carried into the modern age and all of a sudden it's not such a great location for a city. With hilly terrain plus the Sydney-esque harbour space is limited and you'll have to think both once and twice so that Pearl Island, with the lovely flat terrain, doesn't turn into Spaghetti-junction island.
