Looks like it's an issue with HDR - I couldn't get it to come out purple but with HDR on my skins (besides the carbine) all look way too shiny. I'll see if I can make a workaround but for now the fix is just to disable HDR I suppose.

edups it might be to do with different DirectX or graphics settings, I'll have a fiddle today and see if I can make it look disgusting
