Quite OP. Easily carves down as deep as you care to supply the rails and power for. By far the safest way to get deep I've seen.
Switch to "carve upwards only" like the auto excavator.
Be blocked by ore, sand, and magma. Maybe plants, crystals, etc. too.
When digging blocks, take an extra second or something per block dug, in addition to the time/power for placing the track. Perhaps require a disposal to put the dug up rock in, just to make it a bit more challenging to deal with?
If you really wanted to nerf it, you could even require extra power and/or time per distance from the machine.
It would also be nice to have a "don't place tracks at all" option, or version. Perfect stairs carver.
Good thematic fit with the overall game - the bit of experimentation required to get it right and figure out what the settings actually do is just like the vanilla machines.
