HMS Glen Avon Eagle Ship

HSM Glen Avon was one of the many paddle steamers called into service as a Royal Navy Auxiliary vessel in WW1 and WW2.

This 1912 paddle steamer was a Ferry operating in the Bristol Channel until it was refitted as a Minesweeper during WW1.

During WW2 it was again called into service as a minesweeper and even assisted in the rescue from Dunkirk where she was credited with saving 888 troops.

In 1942 she was refitted again as an "Eagle Ship". The Eagle ships were fitted with a variety of Anti Air weapons and were tasked with shooting down V rockets.

Glen Avon was lost in a Storm in 1944 but many of the other converted paddlesteamers returned to civilian life after WW2.

She is equipeed with 4 x 20mm AA, 3 x 2 pdr, 2 x Quad Powered MG turrets, Illumination Flare Launcher
