The Honduran-Cuban War - March 26, 1968

描述
This scenario is set in an alternate history timeline.
The Point of Divergence is in 1955 when large quantities of iridium are discovered in Honduras. Iridium is very useful for a variety of industrial applications. It is also rare and extremely valuable. Honduras, which suddenly found itself in possession of most of the world's accessible supply of iridium, quickly took advantage of its new wealth to become a regional power, purchasing military aircraft, a flotilla of small warships, and even a submarine from the United States.
Unfortunately, the newfound prosperity could not solve every problem. Honduran relations with Cuba have deteriorated since the Communist Revolution in that country. Since 1965, there have been a number of incidents in the Caribbean and in the Yucatán Channel.
Three weeks ago, a Cuban patrol boat fired on a Honduran fishing boat; a Honduran destroyer in the area came to the aid of the fishing boat and was forced to sink the Cuban warship. A week later, Cuba initiated attacks against Honduran aircraft. The Honduran warplanes returned fire. Both sides took losses. Honduras then retaliated by targeting and destroying a small flotilla of light frigates operated by the Cuban navy.
The war continues. Honduras has managed to negotiate an emergency purchase of F-4 Phantoms to replace those lost in combat; in addition, it has assigned some of its elderly but still capable F-4 Corsairs to fly CAP missions over the northern coast. The real problem is ammunition--the supply of missiles for the Phantoms is running short. A convoy with badly needly supplies is en route from America. It is essential that at least some of these ships make it to Honduras.
The Soviet Union, perhaps nervous about American intervention, is pressuring Cuba to end hostilities.
