On Sunday October 15, 1944 Deventer was rocked for the first time by a large bombing of the railway bridge. 34 bombers of the 137th Wing of the RAF threw 24 / 1000 pounders off . Although the bridge was damaged by several air bombardments but remained in use . In the final phase of the war switched the topic : when it was for the Allies important that the railway was preserved for the liberation armies. On April 6, 1945 , German forces blew up the railway bridge in a very thorough manner , from the ground without interference from the enemy.
