I think the ultimate gold mine texture would be a blend of white-ish quartz and regular rock, with a few small and descreet gold veins embedded in the quartz part.
That's what it looks like irl. The white quartz would make it easier to differentiate the gold mines from the stone mines, and be an original alternative to all the other gold textures.
Yes, the industrial space terrains still need to get upgraded. But you can't use them at the same time as the green space ones anyway, so I hope one day delay won't be that much of a problem. :)
